Someone had to let their dog have pups for you to have your family pet. Didn't they? Or is that different.

Woul you prefer everyone was 'responsible' and had their animals spayed so that no-one had any pets at all.

Those things should be left to people who KNOW what they are doing and have a proper, good vet back up for their pregnant dogs.

Yes, what happened is terrible for the poor dog in question, yes it was terrible for the vets to deal (or rather not to deal) with the situation but still.. it is your friend who has put the poor dog in this.

I hope she soon gets over this terrible trauma.

Anyhow, on another note - you cannot call every single person whose dogs has pups selfish, else we'd never have any dogs at all in the world. If you, I and all other MSE'rs want dogs as pets then someone, somewhere, has to let their dog have puppies. I am sorry if that is not what you want to hear but it's a fact. And if only a few people are letting their dogs have pups then the price of them would be far out of reach for most of us as it would be supply and demand. And if we get every single dog in the UK spayed - what then? In 15 years there would be no dogs at all. You'd not have your beautiful dogs that I can see on your avatar. I'd not have my dogs either. No, puppies are not for everyone but someone has to let their dogs have them to let the species continue for us all to enjoy. So I guess that if we want to have dogs in the future then we have to rely on the selfish people to give us those dogs.

There are enough unwanted dogs in rescues the length and breadth of the country to keep everyone in dogs for years. Personally, I think breeding should be left to the experts. Yes, it makes pups expensive - but surely that is a good thing? Stops people randomly getting a dog without thinking it through.

Factory farming of dogs is another horrendous industry that should be banned.
  • Aw Blue_Monkey, that's terrible - I cannot believe (well I guess I can) that they're now trying to say they offered the c-s earlier.

As per my previous post, unfortunately it does happen and people do take what their vet says as being gospel - it's very easy to sit on the outside and say "you should've done this" etc but unless someone has previous knowledge/experience of things going wrong, if they're not an experienced owner (and esp if the vet was recommended) they are going to go along with what's been said.

I have to say, it's the total opposite of my vet, the slightest thing you ring up about, it's "pop him in later and we'll have a look" - sometimes a bit frustrating if it turns out to be nothing BUT I'd much rather that (and pay the odd "un-needed" consultation fee) than leave it and something terrible happen.

If there is already a solicitor taking action against them, I think her best course of action is to take all her notes along (once done) and have a chat with him.

There should be times against the computer entries so it should be possible to find out if they were tampered with (very suspicious if all entries amended around the same time) but I think you'd need to be taking action to see them(?).

You should not be throwing words like negligent around - not on MSE nor with your friend as the language is inflammatory and can get you into hot water. Quite honestly you sound a million miles from "not emotionally involved" . Any letter or case should focus on the facts, negligence is presently your opinion so you need an independent vet and a solicitor's professional opinion on this. Lying may be indicative of negligence, but alone it is not proof. It's also irrelevant that the receptionist was rude, don't get sidetracked with feeling aggrieved. I would advise your friend not to discuss any aspect of this case with any member of staff from the vet, she should have formally requested a copy of the notes and nothing else.

Not an authority on these issues but it is a terrible situation and i understand that you want to do your best to help. Might be an idea to get the facts sorted out and written down, ie if she phoned the vets on her own phone see about getting copies of the numbers and time she phoned the vets. Good luck and I hope the wee doggie is better soon.
