Maybe the missing part that explains how it missed the driver completely and probably the steering wheel as well if a front seat passenger, or the driver, their seat belt and the back of the seat if a rear seat passenger.

I also find it strange that somebody actually stopped when there is a mirror collision

Probably because if it had hit the driver, the steering wheel, or the seat belt, or the seat, the op wouldn't be posting, because it wouldn't have hit them.

The same with the other driver, if they hadn't stopped, they wouldn't have known who they were to claim off.
    Seems a bit obvious really.

Well as a claim validater on the fraud team I would of defo had a wee look at this one, doesn't seem to make possible sense the way its described but meh.. clearly everyone above thinks this can happen quite easily.

    Why not?
The other car hits it, folds it in, it hits the door, and the mirror keeps going.
As the mirror is facing straight into the car, the glass will travel straight through the car.
Or are you assuming the mirror won't fold back at all?
No offence, but it's no wonder we have so many complaints on here about insurers refusing to pay out, and having to be referred to the FOS to make them.

You've got your opinion of it, I've got mine :) Seems very weird though that shattered glass completely bypasses the driver.

Anyway, ending discussion, best of luck to the OP with a resolution.

Having been in the trade for a long time, nothing surprises me, freak circumstances can and do come together to cause seemingly impossible incidents. It is these unforeseeable situations that insurance is for after all.

I always have a small smile to myself when people tell me they don't really need the insurance they are buying as there is no chance of anything ever happening to their business, home or car etc.

I've seen a haulage contractor (Who had cancelled his liability insurance and GIT the week before have his curtainside trailer hit by a fire ork which started a smallish fire in his trailer. His cargo was printers ink which promptly flooded every where, He got a large bill for the ink, new curtain and a bill from the fire brigade / environmental agency for tens of thousands for the polution it caused.

I didn't quote this before when I replied to this the first time around, but as you have now edited it so state the op is committing fraud, do you really think they would have picked up the mirror from where it fell, (or prised it from the car if it didn't actually come out) then stick the broken glass into their own face?
That's your real opinion as a claim validater????

Not saying the OP is committing fraud, just saying the circumstances of the accident, without a bit more information, on first glance, do not seem to make sense to me.

I don't work in claims, but I know that when I drive there's quite a bit of room between my chest and the steering wheel.

I know people can make fraudulent claims, but pressing glass into your face and coming up with an unlikely scenrio does not seem the best and most pleasant way to get a quick buck to me, especially as the passenger will possibly have to make a claim against the driver, who is bound to be known to them.

It does sound an unusual accident, but there an obvious gaps through which an object could pass i.e. between the driver and steering wheel.
