The company I work for use courier companies, We have gone through 3 in the time I have been here, the latest we have had for the last 4 years.

Our latest courier company bend over backwards and if you are having a delivery then they can text you an hour slot (only if the company who own the account has this set up for a fee) or the free service they do which we use is if you give them an email address they will email you the night before to let you know they are coming the next day and then on the morning of the delivery as soon as your item is scanned onto the van they will email you with an hours slot which in my opinion is 99% accurate.

I haven't named names as I'm not sure I am allowed to however they are the best company I have dealt with in all my time dealing with different courier companies.

I really hope you get this delivery however I do understand your frustrations I just think that some are better than others (Depending if the company give jobs out to independent drivers :rotfl:)

That would be great, if they could give a more likely delivery time instead of a massive window people could time their lunchbreaks around it (if they work fairly close to home).

I had a delivery today, got an email on saturday saying it had been dispatched and telling me that i would receive an email this morning with a 1 hour window. I duly received my 1 hour slot this morning and it was delivered during that window.
    Great service:T

Apart from large items such as Grand Pianos, I would much rather to be able to pick up packages from a city centre location. This wouldn't have to be a unique shop for deliveries, or even something like the P.O. sorting office. Places such as self-storage locations could easily add this as an additional service. They already have front desks and places to securely store goods. Existing tracking systems could indicate when the package is ready for collection, and you could go and collect it. There could be a 50p per item charge per day, which I would happily pay (and most likely pick up on the first day).

I'm not claiming the above is the perfect solution, but I'm sure there are MUCH, MUCH, better solutions than the stupid inconvenient, non-working system we have now. But things won't change unless the people who actually purchase delivery services choose better working services. And this won't happen unless consumers let businesses know that they're losing business because of poor delivery. Or, if these businesses find that cheaper options are costing them more. Somebody, somewhere, is going to work out how to provide an efficient and usable home security business, and will put the old useless ones out of business. MyHermes could have been that revolution, but the managers effed it up.

At one point, Citilink in Leicester was utterly abysmal. Though, since the depot changed, it seems to have improved. For a while, after several nightmare experiences, I made a point of asking businesses which courier they used, and if it was Citilink telling them that I wouldn't consider doing business with them if the goods could not be sent by another courier. If enough people did this, or similar, then things might change.

Personally I think MyHermes could would work well. I'd be happy for my local courier to know my email address, and email me if there was anything for me, and telling me when they were going to be delivering. I'd happily bung them £1 for this additional service, which isn't much, but is still twice what MyHermes themselves pays for the package to be delivered.

Which company did you buy from, and which company did the delivery?
