Lets say they start delivering at 6pm, what time do you consider too late to deliver? Now how many parcels do you think they can deliver in that time? Now multiply that by 50p and minus all their costs.Still sound like a good idea?
That makes no sense at all, TBH.

Still no parcel, what a waste of a good day!
Just been on their web-site and it says the parcel is with the courier for delivery, that's it!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

That's a problem with these courier's web sites.
You get a very detailed account of your parcel's journey right up until it's loaded on to the final van for delivery.
Then it just goes dead until you sign for it.
It's a pity they can't work out the route and thus the order the parcels will be delivered and tell you that you are 17 of 27, for example. At least that way you could get an idea if it was safe to go and do a bit of shopping. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Just about every courier company offers a much narrower time window for deliveries. The problem is it costs more and people aren't willing to pay for the service.0

Just need to rant. I'm on a holiday from work and I'm expecting a delivery anytime between 7.30am and my death! (Actually between 7.30am and 9.30pm!)
Why can't they at least stipulate morning or afternoon? Surely they must plan where they are driving that day? Knowing my luck it will arrive at 9.29pm! I know they haven't done anything wrong, its just a 14 hour window is such a long time to wait for a delivery! The weather is gorgeous, my dogs need to go out and I need to do my weekly shop.
I did ring DHL and asked if I left a note on my door would they leave it with my neightbour, was told no!
Oh well, I'll keep waiting, maybe if I go to the loo they might arrive, that's when people normally ring my door bell!! :rotfl:
how much did you pay for delivery0 -
At least yours is out for delivery. Been waiting in all day for a parcel from Mamas & Papas, it should have been delivered before yesterday but only got shipping email yesterday saying it would be here within 1 working day (today I assumed!)
Phoned at 4.30pm as don't have any tracking info, so can't track parcel at all, to be told by M&P that its still in Hatfield and should have been here yesterday but the delivery people have it and its not going to be here by next week (and I need it by Monday)
M&P delivery team and sales team absolutely useless, told me that it'll be delivered at some point next week (too late) and that no stores near me have any stock.
Bl00dy fuming as stayed in, and still none the wiser as to when it is coming
So OP look at the bright side at least yours is on the way!:j Is MSE saving me money, or making me spend more on all the bargains?!:j0 -

How doesn't it make sense?
My point being that Hermes get just as many complaints as all the other "worst ever" delivery companies. Not surprised really as they pay so little that the couriers barely make minimum wage so have no incentive to provide a better service.
A true courier will pick up and deliver at exactly the time you want.I know I used to do it years ago.The problem is you will also pay a huge premium for this, many times more than the large delivery companies charge.
You get what pay for and for what most delivery companies charge, they cannot provide a timed service as its just too expensive to do.0 -

Because I said that a certain service would be a good idea and you responded by saying that one particular company wasn't making a very good job of it.
That doesn't mean that the service is not something that could be very useful.
There must be tens of thousands of people for whom getting anything delivered at home is an absolute nightmare and who would jump at the chance of using a service that operated between, say, 19:00 and 22:30.
Just because one company has tried it and fouled it up does not mean that the idea is bad. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Its a nice idea in theory but think about it.You want someone to start delivering at 6pm, so what time do you think is an acceptable time to deliver to?Does your neighbour think thats anacceptable time too?How about the little old lady down the road who is scared to open her door at that time? Its too niche to be done on the huge scales that would keep the price down.
The person doing it has to make some money out of it so is going to need to deliver a decent amount or charge a premium and deliver less, so how many do you think they could do in an hour and how much would you be willing to pay extra on top of normal delivery charges?Bear in mind your 3.5 hour daily window at unsociable hours making will not pay a living wage and is very difficult to fit in with another job.
There's more than one company doing it, DHL also use self employed drivers and they also make the usual suspects lists regarding complaints.0 -

Given the choice between having to take the day off work or even just wait in all day or maybe having to open your door at 22:00 I'm 100% positive that you'll find plenty of takers for opening their door.
Once again you seem to be tying the idea to people who aren't doing it properly. You could just as easily do that about couriers generally.
The scale argument is irrelevant because it's just a matter of adjusting each driver's 'patch'. (It may not be a practical proposition in areas with a very low density of population but that shouldn't stop it being offered where it is practical.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
