Last week I moved out of my house, he has now texted me sayign i owing him money. The gas bill is him his name. Its a shared house. with 3 other people. everyone has moved out. I don't want to pay as he owes me money, and wont give me any, to pay me back. anyways. What can he do to make me pay the bill, considerign the bill is in him name. can he put the bill in my name?

He doesnt know where i live, he just knows me name.

As the bill is in his name he will have to go to small claims court to receive the money himself - he can not get the gas supplier to pursue the debt. The fact that he owes you money is irrelevant. You are liable for a quarter of the bill and will be so found by the court.

It is a third party dispute. He is responsible for the bill, but can sue you for your share.

The money he owes you is a separate matter and you must sue him.

I can take you to the small claims court for the money you owe me!!!!

Is he your boyfriend or your father? If neither then you have agreed to be liable for your share of the bills.

I take it your new to the concept of houseshares*?

    *and sharing bills

He could equally turn around and say he's not liable for what bills you paid..

What does it say on your tenancy agreement. Unless it states all bills included with your rent then you have to pay your fair share of the bills. It's not fair otherwise. If you used the energy why should someone else pay for your share of it? You'd only have to pay for a quarter like someone said if there were four of you in the house. The fact that he owes you money has nothing to do with the bill. If he owes your more than what he's asking for write a letter saying that he can take that out of the money he owes you, but that he still owes you whatever is left. If what he owes your is less then write a different letter saying that he can take of what he owes you then you'll pay the difference. That seems to be the fairest way really.

Yes, i agree. i cant see me oweing him any money at all. because the bill was in his name. he took the risk.

Legally, what can he do? when the bill is in his name.
