PC cant detect ethernet cable

    Have you tried all the ethernet ports in the router. Are other devices connected to the router working OK?

    Tried all ports. None recognised by the PC. Only thing else connected to the router is the phoneline.

    Im pretty sure its not the router or cable simply because it was working just last week.

    The network interface on the motherboard is working OK (at the OS level) as shown in BIOS/Device Manager/IP Config so, as you've probably already guessed, it looks like a hardware problem with the motherboard's RJ45 socket.

    You could RMA the motherboard or, as suggested earlier, just fit a PCI network card.

    So using a wireless adapter wont work around this issue?

    I think I will fit in a network PCI card. Im reluctant to send it back since it will be the third time Ive had to do so and will probably come back with more problems. Thanks anyway.

    You could use a wireless pci card or wireless USB dongle but if you don't need to move the PC and you obviously already have the patch cables to connect to your router you might as well get an ethernet pci card for a few quid.
