PC cant detect ethernet cable

As the title says my desktop PC cant detect the ethernet cable when I plug it in.
My motherboard is Asus P6X58D-E. I checked the network adapters in device manager it said it was working fine. Even so i reinstalled the network driver from disk with no joy.
This is a custom built PC. When I first started it up it was asking me to set the system date for BIOS which to me means that BIOS may not yet be fully calibrated. In general my bios is acting weird when it starts up because im missing a drivers for Marvell91xx Config ATA device.
I dont know if this plays a factor.
Also I have tried switching the ethernet cable with another.
Can anyone help? Im quite frustrated a PC without internet is pretty useless.

Look on the bright side no spam, no !!!!!! pop ups etc etc etc
Have you tested both cables on a known connection to prove that they both work?
Is the NW card set for DHCP or does it have an IP address configured and if you plug in a known working cable what lights show up on the card and what is the status?0 -
I'd still swap out the network card to be sure it isn't that-you can pick them up for a couple of quid, or borrow one.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The Marvell 91xx is the SATA III 6Gbps controller on your mobo. If you don't have anything connected to these ports (sounds like you don't since the driver isn't intalled), you can safely disable it either in the Windows Device Manager or in the BIOS menu.
For the onboard ethernet, is it enabled in the BIOS?604!0 -

Im guessing in BIOS it is Marvell LAN1 and it says it is enabled.
I have no means of testing whether the cables are working or not. All I can say this is the third time the company has sent back the computer to me which I sent to them for various other issues. The two time previously before the same ethernet cable connected to the pc and internet in a matter of seconds. So I can only assume from that they work fine.
Im gonna buy a wireless adapter tomorrow, if that doesnt work I guess ill phone the company for spare parts.0 -

OK, in the W7 search type in cmd and then in the search result click on it to open the command prompt. In the window that opens type in ipconfig /all604!0
