Well what a complete waste of time! My case officer is on holiday until next week, and no one else can discuss my case. So I'm left in limbo until he's backFeb 2024:

Well at least it means meanwhile you are not paying that IPA.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

The date on the letter for my first payment is 22nd August, but I am due to be discharged on the 12th August, are they clutching at straws in the hope at least the AiB can get some money back?Feb 2024:

No, the IPA has been set up before your AD. If you disagree with it or refuse to sign, they could defer your discharge until agreement has been reached. I take it you get paid at the end of the month , ask if you can move the payment date to the start of the month.0

Not a 100% on this but think if they can't get it signed and agreed before AD then they can't set it up at all. Hopefully one of the more experianced Scots can confirm or deny that.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

I suppose I'll just need to wait til Monday, although the woman I spoke to said everything made sense to her.
Kepar, the IPA has not been set up before AD. I only received the paperwork last night and I am due to be discharged in 4 weeks.Feb 2024:

My situation now is that I cannot face lying to my parents over this anymore.
They are becoming increasingly suspicious of the situation, particularly the letters coming in from AiB and have made it clear that if I'm in trouble then they can't have me living under their roof.
I have some friends who have offered to let me stay with them on the condition that I pay 50% of the rent and bills, and that I buy my own groceries etc. This is understandable, the way they see it is that their house isn't a hotel and shouldn't be treated as such - I will also be using their gas / electricity etc whilst I'm there but it is strictly as a tenant / landlord situation.
This is only short term until things either calm down at home, or until I can find a flat I can afford on my own, or at least move into a shared flat somewhere.
Can the AiB stop me from moving out, if it is likely to worsen my financial situation?
I have already been off sick through the stress of my situation at home, so for the sake of my health it might be a case of jump before I am pushed.Feb 2024:

Hi,
Really feeling for you and I totally understand your reasons why you can't tell your parents. I don't think anyone can stop you moving home, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along and answer this for you.
Best wishes,

The AiB cannot stop you from living any where. Peoples circumstances change, that's life.
Obviously if you were to move on your own to a luxury penthouse suite they would not allow you the full rent but as long as your reasonable needs are being taken care of there is little they will moan at.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Sorry I didn't manage to post last night, but I finally managed to speak to my case officer.
He was very understanding of the situation, and said he didn't want to do anything that would jeopardise things at home, or cause me anymore stress so we talked through everything that he was querying - mainly my petrol costs and my car insurance. I told him that my daily commute is pretty horrendous but because I work in a big city rent is too expensive and i'd probably be worse off.
He also agreed that I could have all correspondence sent to another address (it's at these times you realise who your friends actually are!) and in any case they would keep any letters to a minimum.
We also managed to negotiate an IPA that I can actually afford, rather than being set an amount £40 over what I'm left with at the end of the month. The only thing I forgot to ask about is why I have to pay my IPA over 34 months, and not 24 or 36Feb 2024:
