DLM? They still use DLM? :rotfl:

PRETTY MUCH THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY INCLUDING BT WHOLESALE STILL USE DLM.
I understand what it is and why they might use it. But it IS very archaic.
Really? Are you aware it is still the method used both by BT Wholesale and LLU providers? What other method is used the most then?
But I guess if you're targeting people with little technical knowledge then it's better to have a working connection and ramp it up than having an erratic connection and ramping it down. :)
You have ZERO technical knowledge it would appear if you're calling the current system in full use through the entire UK broadband supply network for IPStream, 21CN and LLU "archaic". To say its that infers its a retired or superseded and now seldom used system when in fact its pretty much the only system in use.
I've probably been online longer than you've been alive. If you want to talk about the technology I'm quite happy to but I doubt I'd be able to do it to a point that wouldn't leave you putting stuff into Google for an entire evening.
Me? I get 17meg sync on an ADSL2+ 3dB interleaved profile. (Interleaving depth 160). I used to have INP1 (service profile 20; interleaving depth 96) but I would get occasional disconnects, and the difference in ping between INP2 (160) and INP1 (96) is only about 4 ms.
Congratulations - you've worked out how to get some stats from your router and put them into a form on a website. Do you actually have a clue what any of it means? Not to doubt you but I find it hard to believe that someone who didn't even know what has been used since the introduction of ADSL Max and is still used both on IPStream and 21CN on new connections whether BT Wholesale or LLU has a single clue what any of the above means.
Yes. I DO know how broadband works. But I've never been with Sky. And I DID say IMHO. ;)
Apparently not seeing as you were completely unaware of the industry standard Dynamic Line Management which runs for the first 10 days pretty much constantly for any new ADSL Max/ADSL 2+ connection anywhere in the UK then periodically for the entire time you have broadband. Sky broadband works no differently than any other from the exchange to the premises.

IMHO is not a "get out of jail free" card to someone who so blatantly had no clue. If I were you, I'd put your shovel down and stop digging.

  • Thanks OP. Good to know. Considering Sky myself.
Those who have nothing to add to this thread should just leave, thanks.

Mine seems to be settling down to 12MB as above although the upload speed has increased to just over 1000kbit. That'll do me - 50% increase in speed for half the price of the 80GB Plusnet package and BT line rental.
