Monarch Airlines abolish debit card fees

They all fly Gatwick to Alicante.
Sorry should have been a bit clearer...
They do all fly that route your right, what i mean is i doubt for every single flight one of them will not be the cheapest all the time. Good old supply and demand!
I think you'll find times where they are all cheaper then each other.
I like all three - ryanair can be amazing value for money - ive been return a couple of places for 2p return.
Having said that in terms of service and making the experience a bit less like a bus, having a bit more back up if stuff goes wrong and from my experience better service before, during and after the flight Monarch is the better airline - suppose its down to how much value you attach offer stuff they offer aside from just the price. Monarch are certainly more flexible.0 -

OFT has ordered travel firms to show card charges up front not 5 pages into the purchase and to ban charges for debti card altogether.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
All companies will have to make card surcharges clear at the outset: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13932299
What people forget about Ryanair is that years back, you could fly for the same cheap price AND YOU WOULD PAY NOTHING TO BUY YOUR TICKET WITH A DEBIT CARD AND NOTHING FOR A SUITCASE IN THE HOLD. I think we can say Ryanair prices have risen dramatically over the last decade. [Yes, they are often still cheaper]. They haven't added a fuel surcharge like some airlines, but they surcharge for other things instead.0 -
Which 1 O'Leary/easyJet 0. The OFT should have clamped down on this a couple of years ago.0

I think its about time. A debit card transaction is a flat fee, and costs the merchant around 20-50p. How anyone can charge £10 for this service is beyond me.
Same for credit cards where its 2-3%. High street travel agents charge people for credit card transactions, but at least their % does represent the actual cost of processing the payment.0 -
Oh for goodness sake. We can all play that game. Give me 1 minute and I will find some flights that are cheaper to the same destination than Ryanair. So your point was?budgetflyer wrote: »Your obvious Ryanair hatred has clouded your financial judgement.
Based on
"Good Guys" Monarch - Manchester to Alicante, 3/7 to 10/7 = £90 + £10 cc fee = £100
"shysters" Ryanair -Manchester to Alicante, 3/7 to 10/7 = £56+ £12cc fee = £68
Which is £32 cheaper - That is ALMOST 32% cheaper .
Conclusion. Ryanair could happily charge idiots £68 with no credit card fee and it would be "a victory for the consumer" in our new Soviet Republic of Britain. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

Ignorance is Bliss.......so the saying goes..........so the great unwashed who cant quite understand how to avoid debit charge fees will soon cost me up to £12 per return flight extra when Ryanair increase prices to cover this loss.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

They'll probably just introduce another revenue stream to replace this one.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
And if their price is still cheaper, book with them, if not search away. They'll probably just introduce another revenue stream to replace this one.
Ryanair have been caught out so many times it is bordering on farce. First they charged to check in luggage claiming that the airports charged them for baggage handling, that was found to be untrue (the landing fees include everything, no extra for luggage). Then the on-line check in fee was added because they say it helps cover the cost of the website and reduces staff at the airport, yet if you check in bags there is still the staff there and they could just as easy check you in while tagging your bag. I have not noticed any reduction in their staffing levels over the past year or so at any airport that I have traveled through. Now they are using the same line with the card fee, but if you pay with a prepay MasterCard you don't have to help pay for their site. :rotfl:The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.
