Monarch Airlines abolish debit card fees

I read yesterday on Monarch's website that they have made debit card payments free and are charging a flat £10 fee on all credit card bookings.
I wish other airlines would follow! :j

So you can pay for free with a debit card, yet if you want to pay with a credit card that offers you far more protection you pay more than you did before?Gone ... or have I?0

No, in most cases you will pay less as the £10 is per booking (e.g. a group of four booking return journeys would only pay £10 in total) not per passenger per flight.
It's fair pricing from Monarch, but don't expect shysters like Ryanair or the increasingly culpable easyJet to follow until they are forced to by the authorities.0 -
It's what you pay when you click "PAY NOW" that matters, not what fees,taxes,check-in are pre included or added on in the booking process.............Monarch are WAY more expensive than Easyjet or Ryanair.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

I've always found Monarch reasonably priced, especially compared to easyjet. Quite often Monarch can be cheaper than them.
I gave up flying Ryanair a few years back as the stressful experience isn't worth the hassle, especially all the expensive add-ons and the rude crew. At least with Monarch, you don't have to scrum to the departure gate as you get a seat allocated.
Given a choice, I'd book Monarch over easyjet or Ryanair, even if they were an extra £10 - it's worth it!!0 -

I saw the Monarch top-man on Sky News yesterday and immediately went to their website. They have long been a favourite airline of mine. I travel regularly to southern Spain and Gibraltar and I've got to say that often I don't even bother searching around, because I much prefer to fly with Monarch, but you are right to also point out that they often are cheaper than easyJet. I am not well off, but I like to treat myself to the best that I can afford in life. As for Ryanair, I have more self-respect than to force myself to endure their low-quality, very stressful service and many hidden costs, not to mention the constant hard-sell onboard! I mean, how the hell can they justify an online check-in charge? That is just sheer robbery. What exactly do they provide for the payment of that service and why has nothing been done about it? Monarch get a big thumbs up from me and I know from talking to fellow travellers onboard their flights that they have many regular travellers as fans. They are a clean-cut professional outfit that offer the kind of service that I am happy to pay for and I don't feel like I am getting a bad deal for any of the services that they sell as add-ons. Their extra legroom offering is a great feature and is reasonably priced when you compare it to the price of a business class seat on other european flights. I often treat myself to the extra legroom on Monarch! The removal of debit card fees has secured their place as my preferred airline.
Well done Monarch! :T I look forward to flying with you again in a few weeks.

Your obvious Ryanair hatred has clouded your financial judgement.
Based on
"Good Guys" Monarch - Manchester to Alicante, 3/7 to 10/7 = £90 + £10 cc fee = £100
"shysters" Ryanair -Manchester to Alicante, 3/7 to 10/7 = £56+ £12cc fee = £68
Which is £32 cheaper - That is ALMOST 32% cheaper .
Conclusion. Ryanair could happily charge idiots £68 with no credit card fee and it would be "a victory for the consumer" in our new Soviet Republic of Britain.0 -

I think its very much dependent on the route.
Having said that i don't think Monarch and ryanair or easyjet are after the same market - even if they do fly to some of the same places.0 -
Also as with many things in life and in this instance flying.
The best value flight might not always be based on price alone.0 -
