Ascott £287 ( Ascott are brokers. Who are the Insurers ?)
RK Shipman £301 ( Brokers. Same question)
Fresh £309 ( Have seen negative posts about this company)
Home Protect £320 ( Brokers. Same question. Have heard of positive reviews of service)

Answers in blue above. The important thing is who are the Insurance underwriters of the policies being offered by these companies. Bit difficult to comment about these companies. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Just checked-home protect state this "Our buildings and contents insurance policies are underwritten by Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s, London, and other insurers."
Shipman and Ascott "Zurich Insurance plc Home Solutions"

Zurich don't appear to have the best reputation for handling of claims. Have seen some horror stories where Zurich have argued all the way to the FOS and even when a FOS adjudicator has sided with the policyholder, they have appealed to the actual ombudsman.
If Home Protect deal with claims using delegated authority, that might be the better option. Perhaps ask them about how they operate and what their claims service satisfaction levels are like, if they conduct any customer reviews.
Have you tried Towergate to see if they have any different options to consider. The comments I post are personal opinion. Think it may have to be Home Protect then.

When I answer the question-"What is the nature of your own or your Employers Business?" It wont let me progress to the next page and i get the error "Validation Error: value is required." even though I have filled it in.
BTW what product would be best for me? I work abroad for 3 month and then Im home for 3 months, so the house will be onoccupied for around 90 days at a time, I will have family member checking on the property every couple days though.
Thanks for the help,

Just make sure before committing that there's zero chance of coming into contact with Asprea via any of the companies involved.0

Try the Co-Op for insurance as well.
I just renewed my home insurance with them. Did the comparison sites using the figures quoted in my renewal notice and then tried the Co-Op's own site. They have an offer of a discount for taking contents and buildings together and buying online.
They undercut the others by at least £70. Don't know how leaving the house vacant for a time would affect the premium but they would be worth trying.0
