<<try putting some tinfoil over the top and this will not only hold the heat in but will almost 'steam the top layer.>>
Tonight I am going to have a sardine and tomato salad along with some chopped up peer thats in the fridge and thinly sliced celery. I have quite a bit of salady stuff thats got to be used up so I shall grate some cheese over the top and eat with some sliced brown bread and butter.Someone gave me about 10 tins of sardines so I'm using them up as the main bit with salad stuff around it.Tomorrow will probably be sardins on toast.I am trying to use up whats in the cupboards rather than go to the shops to buy more stuff in.
Any more ideas for sardines will be welcome
What about a sort of sardine smash using jacket potatoes? Scoop the potato innards out, mix it all together with salt and pepper and put the mixture back in the shells. I've never tried this but it just sounds like it might work
I do the following cheapo dessert for postman hubby to fill him up after he's done a heavy 4 hour 'sprint' around his delivery. I don't know the costings, but I know that I have all of these in the cupboard and they are not expensive ingredients. The most expensive is the suet, which is about ~£1 for a box and this uses 1/4 or a 1/5 of a box. Healthy this is not.
Spotted !!!!!! (serves 4)
4oz self-raising flour
2oz vegetable suet (the 'normal' animal suet doesn't work too well and is too greasy and heavy)
2oz sugar
2oz sultanas
Milk
Put all the dry ingredients into a microwaveable plastic pint bowl (ceramic won't work properly) and mix well. Add enough milk to make a sloppy mix, cover and then microwave on high for 4 minutes."carpe that diem"0 -
I wonder if a sardine kedgeree might work. Mash them up and mix with cooked rice and chopped hard boiled eggs, garnished with a bit of dried parsley. Maybe add a handful of peas if you have any in the freezer. Top with a bit of grated cheese if budget allows.
Like the poster above I admit I've not tried this, but I'll generally try anything once!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I think everything on this site will pretty much fit the bill for this thread. It was developed by weezl and a team from one of her threads.

Quite right. There's an amazing amount of meat still left on your average chicken carcass after a Sunday roast. Even after taking off 'sandwich meat', I find I can still scrape off enough bits and pieces to make a sauce to put on rice or pasta.
To get the ultimate value from my chicken, I then put the carcass in a large pan of water and simmer it for an hour or so with carrot, onion, celery and seasoning to get a delicious chicken soup.
I do the same but have never used a carcass to make a soup, I think because I hate any fat in the soup. If I did this and left it to cool, would I be able to scoop it all off?Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
