My girlfriend is trying to find a job, not easy though at the moment and its a vicious circle because if she takes on a full time job then we would need to go down the route of childcare and this is another expense that would probably make it not worth her while working.
So you don't tax the car, or put petrol in it?
If it was worthwhile to work before, why would it not be now?Gone ... or have I?0 -
How was it worthwhile for her to work before if it wouldn't be now because of childcare?
Childcare costs for a five year old that's at primary school can't be that high surely?0 -

To be honest the job that my girlfriend had was a job she will be lucky to land again in her lifetime. It was a sales job for Sky TV and the pay was great. She only got the job through somebody she knew who already worked for the company. There is very little, if any opportunity for the same sort of job at the moment.
She has no qualifications other than 6 years sales experience and there is very little sales obs going about at the moment that are the right type for her.
The type of job she has been looking at is admin type job and the pay is alot less and she will be lucky to get a 1/3 of what she used to earn if she goes full time. Factor in childcare costs and travel etc and its hardly worth her while. Don't get me wrong when she worked for Sky paying the childcare bill wasn't an issue and she worked full time.0 -

Not currently, but what about having a couple of more kids? or pretend to sperate and the OP go live elsewhere, maybe the OP could lose his job and claim HB/JSA/CTC. Few options to consider.
Maybe though the most sensible option is to maybe try get your girlfriend to take a lesser paid part time job.
Do you have 2 cars, or other things that can be cut back on?
Even if this was posted in jest, it should be pointed out that encouraging fraud is not allowed. Luckily the OP seems to have ignored it.0 -
Someone else has already suggested making a soa and taking over to the Debt-free Wannabe board - you may find some helpful suggestions there about where you might possibly be able to make cuts on your expenditure which will be helpful.0

Has she looked at insurance? To get £30k in sales I'm guessing she had a supervisory role of some kind? Insurance companies like the Admiral Group take on people with no significant academic qualifications all the time and you can either go in at a supervisory level if you have that experience or start just on the phones and still earn very well if you're good at sales on commission.
Admiral tend to recruit every 3 months or so."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

I think she needs to widen the search, and not just think there's a 'right type' of job for her.0 -

She wasn't a supervisor, she used to sell Sky to people in Shopping Malls and was pretty good at it and the commission payments paid her that sort of money.0 -
