Help!!

Hi folks,

Looking for a bit of advice, to cut a long story short, my girlfriend lost her job last year, it was a well enough paid job for our lifestyle, approx £30k a year. I have decent enough job, approx £30k a year also and still have this job.

After my girlfriend lost her job we managed to get by until just after xmas without my partner having to claim benefits but after xmas it got difficult and since then she has been claiming contribution based job seekers allowance however, this is due to run out shortly as she has reached the maximum number of days where she can claim and has basically been told by the Job Centre that she will have to live off my income, great!!

Why is it that people who sponge off the social and who have never worked a day in their life get everything paid for them including rent, council tax etc and those who pay into the National Insurance pot get basically get almost nothing.

Does anybody know of any other benefits that's we would be entitled to?? We get child tax credit £10.55 per week and family allowance, £80 4 weekly. We have a 5 year old daughter who is at school and rent privately at a cost of £650 per month.

  • there are loads of families living on far less than 30k per year, i actually think you are quite well off, and to think you had a joint income of 60k, surely you have savings???

Used most of the savings to fund the 12 months of girlfriend having no job plus our outgoings each month are pretty high at just under £2k per month. (I have a wage arrestment for an unpaid bank loan dating back to my twenties which costs me over £200 per month.)

I realise that there is alot of people much worse off than i am but I am really just on here to find out if there is anything else i can claim for.

You would probably get sanctioned for giving up your job without good reason and not receive any JSA for up to 26 weeks.

Was just venting my frustration, I guess then i need to tackle my debts which is a separate issue and look to reduce my outgoings.

I love my job too much to give it up, the tax system i feel though screws money out of people left right and centre and it !!!!es me off.

You mean you'd prefer to have less money coming in than you have now?

If you want to check your entitlement to anything, then use this:

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Not currently, but what about having a couple of more kids? or pretend to sperate and the OP go live elsewhere, maybe the OP could lose his job and claim HB/JSA/CTC. Few options to consider.

Maybe though the most sensible option is to maybe try get your girlfriend to take a lesser paid part time job.

Do you have 2 cars, or other things that can be cut back on?

Yeah we have 2 cars but one is a company car so all that it costs me is the tax on it and personal fuel. The other car is a banger that is paid outright, it costs me the insurance every month which is only £30.

My girlfriend is trying to find a job, not easy though at the moment and its a vicious circle because if she takes on a full time job then we would need to go down the route of childcare and this is another expense that would probably make it not worth her while working.
