I had toshiba's years ago and they were always built like a tank.
The new ones disappoint. Keyboard is fab though.
This is a bargain and gets pretty good reviews. It would be a very good choice if you can live with a 15.6

This is exactly the one I will most porbably go for if I go for the larger size..0 -
For that how about this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meenee-MNB737-Laptop-Bluetooth-webcam/dp/B004GGBUJY/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1306972549&sr=8-2-fkmr1I concur..
- WANT: 13"-14" screen size
- WHERE: Portable to use around the house, to take abroad and use on desk, etc. (Hence preference again for smaller size)
- USAGE: browsing, email, web, youtube, movies, etc. Not gaming0 -
Ubuntu on my dell mini drove me...mental!

Novatech do this as well as a very good range of built pc and laptops off the shelf.
Personally id much rather shop at somewhere like Novatech than use currys and/or pc world as they know there onions and can offer very good advice where as currys or pc world will just give you the spill to get a sale.

I bought a Novatech laptop.. at the time, it worked out to be a lot cheaper (£279 for a core2duo) than the high street because Novatech is happy to sell their laptops and PCs without bundling Microsoft Windows..
Against others' advice, I took the risk that Linux would install on the laptop, and it's been running Ubuntu Linux amazingly well ever since. http://forum.novatech.co.uk/showthread.php?5166-Installing-Linux-on-a-new-laptop.&p=104338#post104338
Ditching Microsoft Windows for Linux is worth considering if you want to get a better machine for the same money.0 -
I did try one out. You'll be quite happy with it....:D
Ok, a simply comparison - you seem like you know alot more than I do. The acer, or toshiba q330.. Extra £180 for the size I prefer, better processor, RAM and hard drive. Justified..?
Quality/reliability wise also? I wonder..0 -
It seems good quality. The diff in tech spec I don't think is enough to make too much difference.
Of the two, I'd have the acer - a lot less money.
You'd probably find that side by side, the size diff is not that amazing.Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
Samsung Q330 - £450
Samsung SF310 - £560
Between these 2, what am I missing the Q330 seems far superior with much better battery life, and bigger hard drive, except for:
- processor I think, (which is not much worse than the latter)
- graphics card (not important for me)
So, is the Samsung Q330 a good buy?
Also any comments on the 13-14" mentioned in original post?
EDIT:
Actually, from what I can see the processor for the Q330 is actually much better than the SF310. So for £110 EXTRA SF310 gets you everything worse, but a better graphics card..
I think I am starting to like this Q330 even more
The Q330 has an Intel i3 350m (passmark rating: 2048)
The SF310 has an Intel i5 580m (passmark rating: 2872)0 -

If you get a chance try and see one in the flesh. (Am currently looking for one myself). The Acer hinges and case look less robust than the toshiba 660).
Toshiba is looking favourable.
