Do you use a milkman?

We have always had a milkman.
Have two pints delivered every day for a family of four of us.
Still run out sometimes and top up from supermarket.
Our milkman is a hive of gossip and OH enjoys his weekly chat on a Saturday morning with him :rotfl:
Ours doesnt come in bottles any more though. It is now delivered in a plastic bag which they are trialling.
Tastes just as good.
I know I could save quite a bit by not having milk delivered but I love the convenience, the fact we are keeping someone employed and the knowledge that the big supermarkets aren't ripping the farmers off on my behalf.
If we were really hard up.......now that would be a different matter.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
We used to get doorstep milk fom Wisemans but they sold the round off to a local delivery firm. The service got worse and the bills were never right. When we stopped the delivery service at least a year ago we were paying 65 pence per pint. The same firm did a leaflet drop a couple of weeks ago offering milk at 68 pence per pint.
Now we buy 4 pint plastic bottles at whichever supermarket we visit and freeze them. There is usually a multi-buy saving so we get at least 4 at a time. The milk does take a day or so to thaw in the fridge but we always plan for that. When dancing with dragons, don't let your partner lead.0 -
I use a local milk man (Kirby &West - leics area), and pay £1.78 for 2 litres, the exact same price as the local co-op. He also does a huge box of mixed fruit and veg from the wholesale market for £13, last time I priced the contents up against Mr T it was £23.
Can't fault the convenience. Did try milk&more but the milk was £2.20ish, the F&V was expensive and he rolled up at 9.30 so the milk sat on my south facing doorstep all day and advertised when no one was in 'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
I've just stopped having milk delivered. It was quite a bit more expensive but the milk man always delivered even in bad weather. Last year he sold out to a bigger firm and during the winter they often failed to deliver. Also the milk didn't seem to keep as long.
The last straw was when they stopped calling for the money and just left a bill on the step. I either had to ring the dairy and pay by card (something that I don't like doing) or fork out for a stamp.0
