I'm all for supporting our local farmers too as they get a bum deal from the supermarkets as it is. I read somewhere that dairy farmers are vanishing at an alarming rate. If this trend continues then we will have to get milk from abroad.
When you put it like that you are so right. When we first had milk from the milkman my son (7) was amazed that it came in bottles! :rotfl: I do think milk is much nicer out of glass and I think it tastes better too. Perhaps more people should switch to the good old fashioned milkman to keep the farmers afloat.0 -
I do, i have 1 pint a week!
I have balck tea and dont eat cereal, so I never buy milk. In order to increase my calcium in take i have it delivered once a week, and I drink it with my breakfast.
I always used to end up throwing away milk I bought in the supermarket, so its good for me.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0 -
I'm getting along alright without using a milk man.
My ice man, my meat man, my coal man and my wood man are enough to keep me satisfied.0 -
I don't use a Milkman. I have had phases of using Milkman but found it inconvenient compared to getting Milk delivered from Tesco, Ocado or buying from Waitrose. I always use Moo Milk which is the only milk that tastes delicious and I can store it in the house meaning I always have milk without worrying about it going off.
I come from a family of voracious Milk Drinkers so Milk Supplies are next to godlinesss.
Prices are same in above more or less.Milk Supplies are always kept plentiful as I hate to run out or run short.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.
Reading whatever books I want to the rescue!:money::beer[/B

I pay 55p a pint form our milkie and he has just gone up this week - I get 4pts semi on a Monday and 4pts semi and 2pts full cream on a wednesday - costs me £10.90 per fortnight.
The amount we have saved form not having to pop to the garage or co-op when we run out and buying other stuff while there is worth the extra. He is reliable too and when we had all the snow / ice he never missed a delivery.0 -
I really miss my milkman (well it was a lady) and the little bits of gossip lol but she went from delivering pint glass bottles which i liked to cartons and it just didnt taste the same.(oh well thats called progress).0

OP, I buy cartons of UHT skimmed milk that have a long shelf life. It did take a while to get used to having [STRIKE]chalky water[/STRIKE] skimmed milk in tea, but I'm used to it now and it is far better for DH who is diabetic.
Our road doesn't get gritted so the milk float can't get down the hill safely when there is snow.
We've recently switched to Soya instead of using milk at all. Much nicer than UHT but has the same advantage of not regularly running out as you can buy a big stock of 1L cartons to put in the cupboard when you do your regular shop.
It obviously tastes different but the main thing is that it isn't as sweet as milk. You can get sweetened stuff but that's more expenseive so kills your MSE benefit. If you've got a sweet tooth just add more sugar with your cereal/tea. personally I'm glad of it not being so sweet but that's just me.
Asda SP Soya is I think 58p a litre so about the same price as cow's milk.0 -
