Do you use a milkman?

I'm considering buying my milk from a milkman locally and was just wondering what the average price for a pint is these days?

I know it's not the cheapest option but I'm in a rural area live alone and only have a scooter for transport. I'm thinking about convenience and for when the winter comes in case I can't get on the roads.

Cheers!

Until I gave up my milkman a few months ago, it was 65p a pint.

Wow, that's quite steep! I guess that's what you get for convenience!

Yes, it was when I realised I was paying a 40p per pint premium (compared to buying from the local shop) that I finally ditched the milkman after a lifetime of use.

I use a milkman - 60p a pint . I know I can get it far cheaper in a supermarket but we've just moved temporarily into rented until we find a house to buy and he came and knocked. He delivers to the houses next to us (we are fairly rural) and was such a nice old fella that I said ok. What was I thinking, not very MSE, but at least I am keeping him in a job!! However, we only get 6 pints a week and if I need more I go to supermarket, and I suppose it is lovely to have it put on your doorstep, and to have a chat about the weather and how we need rain for the crops and how he still has one field to plough!!

It may sound more expensive and not very MSE but then I think nothing of paying £2.45 for a cup of froth from Costacoffee! Put that way it's good value for money I guess.

I'm all for supporting our local farmers too as they get a bum deal from the supermarkets as it is. I read somewhere that dairy farmers are vanishing at an alarming rate. If this trend continues then we will have to get milk from abroad.

I've always got my milk - and often, other things too - from my milkman. All the prices are on milkandmore's site.

I used to a few years ago and the price was about 60p a pint, so from other comments it looks like it hasn't gone up a lot. I thought the milk tasted better and it was very convenient when I didn't have a local shop, but now I live just two minutes walk from a co-op so it's just too expensive for something that I can buy so close to home for significantly less.

OP, I buy cartons of UHT skimmed milk that have a long shelf life. It did take a while to get used to having [STRIKE]chalky water[/STRIKE] skimmed milk in tea, but I'm used to it now and it is far better for DH who is diabetic.
Our road doesn't get gritted so the milk float can't get down the hill safely when there is snow.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
