There are lots of little museums going all the way down the royal mile. http://www.edinburgh-royalmile.com/interest/placesofinterest.html

cheap places to eat - there's plenty of weatherspoons dotted around.theres a nando's somwhere i believe (not sure where but eveyone on my facebook seem to always be there!) as well as your usual suspects ( pizza hut, mcdonalds, frankie and bennies e.c.t e.c.t) Vodka revolution on chambers street has nice food http://www.revolution-bars.co.uk/edinburgh/food.php
as well as all the cafe's and starbucks that are in the department stores on princess st which have gorgeous views of the castle.

transport is brilliant in edinburgh thanks to lothian buses (superior to first) theres always a steady flow of buses - £1.30 for an adult, unsure how much children are. http://lothianbuses.com/

Yes- there is/was a charge for the hologram museum/camera obscura - couldn't have been a fortune or I;'d never have gone in!

Just wonbdering if you are away yet? if you are heading up and are here on friday, the national museum are re opening the old part of the museum which has been getting restored. starting from about 9am there are going to be street shows and floats celebrating and probably lots of other things. I imagine it would be well worth heading there, we are going :)

Yup it's free. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done to it because it's been closed for years while it's been getting done up.

    it's on chambers street.

Oh good :) I know you'll enjoy it. We're going again on October at Halloween and are going to go on a spooky late night ghost walk
