As CaitSith has stated, Logmein sounds like what you need.

You simply install it on the target PC, then you can access it from any other computer (provided it has a reasonably good internet connection)
and nothing at all needs to be installed on to the computer that you are working from so.

The company I work for also has a no private program or software policy on their PC's, and they don't have any problem with anyone remote accessing another computer.

Just contact the relevant dept of your company and ask them about it and see if it would cause any problems doing this.

Before bothering to do anything on your PC at home, at work go to http://www.logmein.com and check it isn't blocked. If things are locked down so tightly I'd be amazed if they let you even get to the URL and if they do install the ActiveX control required.

As others have said, DropBox is quite good (if the URL isn't blocked). You could use FTP to transfer the documents around either by setting your home PC up as an FTP server or using some webspace somewhere.

Use dropbox, put the file in the folder, login online on the work PC and download the file.
  • Can I ask the group why, apart from other criminal offences, each poster is facilitating, indeed encouraging the theft of personal medical records from an employer ?

I suspect because like me, a lot of posters saw a comma that wasn't there and thought that the question was about accessing files stored on a home PC at work.

Does it matter which location you steal / break the law from ? The employer has told the O/P words to the effect in #1 "" we cannot put anything into the usb slots or even put a disk into the cd drive "" the poster is seeking your help in finding a workaround to break the law, steal the files and at some point when caught - end her contract of employment.

one possible workaround is to download an FTP, TELNET or SSH/SFTP Java applet in your browser, and connect to an FTP, TELNET or SSH/SFTP daemon that you have set up and left running on your home PC.

The above would only work if your office hasn't locked down the browser, and hasn't forbidden you from local write access to the file system. Bit of a convoluted way around, even if it is allowed.

I'm glad you don't do my networking. Any admin worth their salt will block all of the ports for all of the above services on the WAN side.
