2007 Reg Car from Dealer MOT with Advisory
Options
Hi Guys,
I just bought a VW Passat, 2007 reg car (91,000 milles 2.0 TDI) for 5500GBP.
I have already paid 200 pounds deposit (MOT was not done at this time).
I was told by the dealer that he'll give me a 12 months MOT and a basic servicing.
These are the MOT Advisory from DVLA website:
1) Nearside Front inner edge worn but cords not exposed Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
2) Offside Front inner edge worn but cords not exposed Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
3) Unable to check outer sills plastic covers fitted
4) Restricted view of engine bay cover fitted
5) Restricted view under vehicle under trays fitted
I know he wont change the tyres for me, but do I need to worry for the last three points (3, 4th and 5th points)??
This is the first car I am buying so any advice will be appreciated.
Regards,
Rushabh

3,4 and 5 aren't a major concern, I would personally see how easy they are to remove and have look myself just to check nothing surprising is lurking but you should be fine.
1 & 2 personally I would have spotted that when viewing the car and would have had them done as part of the deal or money knocked off.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

If the car came with the cover and skud pan (Under tray) fitted from new it shouldnt be an advisory and you are within your legal right to have the dvlc ammend the certificate to remove them from it, The garage will probably also recieve a warning.I dont have to show riches, To pull up, Pull of with some bad b*tches, It's about my persona, Aint nothing like a man that can do what he wanna0

Thanks guys,
When I bought the vehicle, the dealer said that you are paying full screen price (no negotiation) bec. we are providing 12 months full MOT and will also do the servicing. I walked away from the dealer as he did not reduce the price, but next day I called and agreed the deal as I thought thats the best vehicle on autotrader.......
I did mention about the brake discs when I visited him and they were a bit worn - I am not that car expert so did not looked at the tyres.
Now car has passed MOT so he;s not legally bond to sort the tyres... Its about 150GBP loss, but its OK I guess.
Thanks for your comments.0 -

Is that the line you will use if you get stopped by the police for driving around with bald tyres?? No offence but checking your tyres is a basic requirement and is YOUR responsibility when out on the road, too many people are using the excuse that they aren't mechanically minded or an expert to be doing the most basic of checks.
As for sorting it out it isn't a big deal and is easily put right.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Maybe it's because I'm looking at < £700 cars at the moment, but tyres are the FIRST thing I check when looking at a used car!0

"Is that the line you will use if you get stopped by the police for driving around with bald tyres??"
Thanks for the comment mate, but what I meant was I did not looked at the tyre so closely to notice that they are not that good when I went to buy the vehicle.
Also, It has passed the MOT and dealer says that if it was bad, it would fail and we would change it for you.
So at this moment of time, the tyres meet the minimum requirement standard - take it easy.
Once I look at the tyres again, as I havent done that in the first time, and if I feel the tyres are about to go, I'll replace it myself.0 -
I'd suggest that since the tyres are worn at the inner edge you may have a tracking/balancing problem - which I WOULD expect the dealer to sort out.0

AS Kilty has pointed out you should always check the tyres as they can indicate other problems especially if they have uneven wear. My point was about the fact I have read a few threads this week alone where people are not checking the most basic of things when looking to buy a car or even running one, then they wonder why they are having problems. Too many people expect it to be he garage/dealerships problem but it couldn't be further from it, if stopped its the driver that will get the fine/points, if the car blows up because someone doesn't know how to check the oil they are the ones that will have to fork out a fortune to get it repaired/replaced.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

for a trader to sell a vehicle with bald tyres or in an unsafe condition should be illegal????? dont know why i have this in mind its probably because a trader was in the local rag a few years ago got fined over 20,000k for selling one to trading standards after a few complaints.0
