Slow connection to router

I am having a very similar issue - new BT installation yesterday.

Home PC with a belkin N dongle is sitting on same desk as my work laptop with built in wireless and my wifes laptop also with built in wireless floats around the house.

Router is 7 metres away (with one wall between us - 1960s house).

My PC keeps losing signal, losing internet, really bad.
Work laptop only shows 3 bars but slightly better.
Wifes laptop only shows 4 bars when a foot from the router and 4 bars when in my room.


BT have said that if the router knocks out a signal then it must be working and have been beyond useless.

I have ordered some plug adapters to send signal through the plug sockets. If they dont result in a significant improvement will be terminating my BT contract.

My connection is a wired connection so it is nothing to do with wifi. It is interesting that my netbook has the exact same issues when connecting to the router by wifi and it runs Linux.

Woo hoo, I have finally fixed it. It turned out my computer had blank MTU and RWIN settings for its network card so when I set these to the the same as the computer that works then it all magically started working well. I am so glad it is now fixed. Thanks for all the suggestions.
