Slow connection to router

I have moved house, I had broadband with Eclipse in the old house and had a router that I plugged my PC into using a ethernet cable, everything worked well. I have now moved to a friends who already have broadband with Tiscali, when I plug my PC into their router then internet access is so slow it is unusable. If I go onto https://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk on my PC it times out while loading the page, if I go onto the same website on my friends PC which is also wired into the same router it loads in seconds and the test returns very good speeds. What am I doing wrong?
As another test I connected my laptop to the router wirelessly and it also times out on that same website so it seems that both my computers don’t perform when connected to this router.
Any ideas what is causing this? It is a real head scratcher.
Thanks,
Womble

Thanks for that, I will do those checks tonight and post back then.0 -
You need to determine where the fault lies by doing the same speedtest from your friend's PC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

It sounds like you may be using old entries from your previous network.
See here http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-DHCP-Network-Settings-on-Windows-XP and follow these steps. If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0 -

That is what I expected must be the issue, thanks for pointing me in the direction of how to go about resetting it.0 -

Friends machine - 13.74 mbps down, 0.85 mbps up
My machine - After 3 minutes it still hadnt loaded the speedtest website!
are these the line stats you mean:
Statistics -- LAN
InterfaceReceivedTransmitted BytesPktsErrsDropsBytesPktsErrsDropsEthernet407103712003170026110800426926100Wireless390527620534003989201139527452600 -
If the friend's machine using the same router gives nearly 14MBps, then clearly it's not a line or router issue-the problem is your PC, or it's network connection.
Can you ping the router from your PC?
Have you tried resetting the IP address?
From the command prompt type in- "ipconfig /release", then "ipconfig /renew"No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
