A lousy month moneysaving wise my debts have increased and with nothing much to show for it. Still today is the start of a new month the credit card is safely locked away and at the moment at least the sun is shining ( and they haven't taxed that yet).

I hope all you moneysavers are doing better than me.

    See you next month

    Hmm, here for an update!

I've been good as gold and am now down to £18,284.36... so well chuffed. Nothing special done, just not been as frivelous.

I too need to do some more mystery shopping, and give matched betting a go. I've already sold anything I own of any value!!!

Keep up the good work everyone.

    Hi everyone,

I've fallen off the wagon a little bit and know the debt's gone down, but not sure if it's by any more than a couple of hundred this month. Just having a bit of a blah time (run down, work chaotic, house a mess, sore tooth, too busy in general). I'm going to take a proper break over Easter, take stock, and start afresh towards the end of next week.

    Onwards and upwards!

    Hi.
Just an update from me. From the £21K i am trying to clear I have managed £1789.10 so far.
Started at end of December so £596.36 average per month which I am pretty pleased with.

Hoping for some charges to be repaid from Barclaycard - will that count towards the challenge?

Well done to everyone for whatever you have managed to clear so far.

Anyone else fancy a mini-challenge? I feel a bit like we're in this for the long haul now and some of the initial enthusiasm has waned, so a mini challenge might be just what we need to give us a kick up the backside.

I just read on another thread that it's 10p listing day on Thursday over on our old friend eBay and that got my brain cells ticking over.

I know that quite a few of us have eBayed pretty much anything that isn't glued down, so I challenge you to find FIVE items (or as many as you want, but I think 5 is manageable and shouldn't take you any longer than an hour) around the house which you either didn't pay for (got free or an unwanted gift), you've had kicking around for ages and haven't used or quirky stuff you don't need any more and wouldn't have thought anyone else would either.

Then pop back here and post what the items are once you've listed them on Thursday - obviously not with too much detail as I wouldn't want any skulduggery going on. Just keep it generic like 'bedding set I don't use any more' or 'book that came free with the paper'. I can't find the link, but remember the thread on the strangest things you've ever sold on eBay might be quite inspiring.

Then when sales close and it's update round-up time on the 29th (or thereabouts) we can compare how we all got on and it'll boost our figures for the end of the month.

Anyone else who isn't doing this challenge but feels they need a bit of a boost, or need to de-clutter a bit, is welcome to join in if you're needing a bit of motivation too.

So come on, gang, who's in? :p

  • Brilliant idea Nevadagirl. Just the boost I need to actually get the items photographed and put on ebay. I have a free picnic basket (came with some office stationery) to start with, I'll have a hunt tonight and try to get the photos taken (I don't suppose we're allowed to sell the children ... but thinking about it I probably wouldn't get any bids)
See you at the month end.

Good stuff. Can't wait to see how we all do, and it's a lot more fun than plodding on with this stuff in isolation :j

For the purpose of the challenge, I'm going with a job lot of magazines which I got on a special offer subscription, something I bought for my cats which they hate and wouldn't touch, a set of lipsticks I got with my latest cheapo subscription, a once-used watercolour painting kit my ex bought and got bored of, and some old artists pastels (ditto). Although they're listed separately as five items, if I get a fiver the lot I'll be more than happy. If I got £2.50 and the stuff was out of my house I'd be happy

I'm also relisting some stuff which didn't sell last time before I recycle/freecycle/charity/bin it depending on condition, and I've scared up another 80-odd items from around the house in the last few weeks. But only the five lots above count for the challenge. I'm reckoning I only have another two or three cheap listings days before my fiance moves in here so I need to declutter as much as I can, when I can :D

    Good luck everyone!

Evening everyone - seems like ages since an update.

Well, bad news for me. I racked up a £300 repair bill for the car, so a big set back this month. Things are going to be very tight, and I've actually cancelled the direct debit for my big 2 loans with the intention of paying double on both next pay cheque. Its naughty but really hope I can blag it. Any bank charges would be crippling, and I have got an impeccable repayment history with both companies... Fingers crossed.

I am undertaking 5 mystery shopping assignments at £40 each + expenses, so hoping I can get these done pronto to help the situation tenfold!

Still, the debt is coming down slowly

I've actually run out of things to sell, however, next door has a Renault Safrane (luxo barge bangor thing) that is off the road. They intend to scrap it, however, as the car is quite rare I'm going to try breaking it, and they have agreed thats fine as long as I dispose of it at the end!!!

Good luck everyone, I'm going to struggle through this month, and try and stay focussed... :)
