Upto you, but if you want a speedy machine, I'd uninstall adaware, it doesn't do much that norton doesn't already do, and is bloating up your machine - (commit charge is still too high) - aiming for below 200 - when you get there, the machine should be fast.
start run msconfig - click startup tab, untickonly the suggested O4's (If they are visible) - it will stop them running all the time after a reboot, but leave the software there to be run manually if you wish.
ie to defaults, nothing to be scared about
Disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok
In internet explorer, click on tools, internet options, advanced, disable script debugging to stop this running
Thanks people, I'm finding this very intesting and educational. I'm slow doing it because I try to read about what I'm doing before and so get taken down all sorts of - what's that mean - paths.
(E.g. currently making new back-ups and resetting Norton so it also makes restorable images or maybe clones?)
You'd all do it in a thrice but it takes me ages!
But thanks to all especially Closed, Macman and Russ for patiently helping. xx
