Desktop screen- an afterthougt or not?

Dear Techie people, I'd like to ask your advise.
My 9(?) year old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop is becoming too slow to work with. I'm a fairly basic PC user though it is a bit of a life line to me. Typically I email with Outlook Express, Google anything that catches my interest, have Norton 360, bank, buy from Amazon, MSWord a bit. Stream BBC radio, store maybe 2000 photo's and use Picasa to improve them, listen to downloaded music, you tube a bit.

Anyway I think that really any reasonable modern PC will enable me to do this sort of thing and have chosen an Acer from a local shop who will come and install it and move my stuff over.
All this is I think fine for someone like me who wants to know vaguely what is what, but am a PC user than a technical person.

Here finally is my question! I stare at the monitor for maybe 6 hours a day so I'm wondering if buying a standard Samsung/Acer cheapish monitor as an afterthought for say 150 euros is really a good idea.
I know some ebook readers have screens that imitate paper and are less likely to cause eye strain. Is there a desktop monitor equivalent? Googling I can't find much just about the settings of the screen and distance to your eyes etc.
Thanks for any ideas or thoughts.

I daily get a message in the bottom right corner about low ??? memory. Also po-ups that scripts are not working. Always a different script?

As for monitors... it depends on personal taste really. its best to trust what you think with your own eyes.

Me i'm happy with cheap monitors, I refuse to look at anything better because I know ill love them and will be forced to buy really expensive monitors from that day onwards.

There's a bit missing from the middle of your HijackThis log.

To be honest Rob, in the shop, I can't really see a huge difference or when I can see a bit of difference, it's hard to know what was causing it because the light conditions in the shop are so different to home of course. Also the time you spend looking at a screen in a shop.
So to me screens seem pretty similar really whereas my ebook is quite different.

I've gone over to the Administator side from the User side of our partitioned disk as maybe that is why the scan is not complet ( but really impressed anyone can see that!)
Currently Hijack is analysing the log.

I wonder though about infections as I have a lot of security Norton _ Adaware and lately Spybot.

Thanks, I do feel way out of my depth here but we have had Norton 360 for years and years, that's anti virus isn't it? (I hope!)

To be honest Rob, in the shop, I can't really see a huge difference or when I can see a bit of difference, it's hard to know what was causing it because the light conditions in the shop are so different to home of course. Also the time you spend looking at a screen in a shop.
So to me screens seem pretty similar really whereas my ebook is quite different.

E-Readers use a differnt type of display, generally known as e-ink, no monitor has this sort of display.

You also generally wont find expensive monitors in high street shops, maybe a nice ips panel in an Apple store but thats it.
