Not saying they are as white as snow and I am not a new poster.

I have used them many times and changed bookings close to departure dates, been refunded promptly and had bookings amended promptly

    I was think that too......

Though to be honest, it only takes one dishonest person in ANY company, to do something like this.

Years ago, the local BP petrol station hired a bunch on middle eastern type's (must have been recent immigrants as they spoke no English at all). The guys proceeded to set up a camera above the card reader to catch customers pin numbers, they would make the card transaction fail, take the card, wipe it on their leg, replace the card and carry on.
During the leg wipe they were scanning it with a card cloning device, your details were then sold to gangs in other countries, who then hammered your card for all they could get.

Do I go around telling people to avoid BP stations? Of course not....

I'm not a newbie but I have used Carhire 3000 a number of times over the years and their service has been spot on everytime. I think they are Rentalcars.com or something similar now but I would happily use them again.

First of all let me state that I am not a newbie. Secondly I have used Carhire 3000 for many years without any problem and indeed have found them very helpful and I continue to book with them based on this good experience as you would do with any trade. I feel this company is being blamed by the OP for deeds committed by the rental car firm who supplied the car.

  • We rented a car for a short trip abroad.
As we wanted peace of mind we paid extra for extra insurance protection with aZero Excess waiver cover (this supposedly means that all theft and damage iscovered except the tyres, windows, underside and some interior parts of thecar) but you are covered fully for accidental damage & theft supposedly). When you receive your rental confirmation voucher you don`t get a reallydetailed set of terms and conditions - more about this later.

Whilst abroad our hire car was broken into and the stereo and some personalbelongings out of sight in the boot were taken.

All proper procedures as per the rental were followed and the theft reportedcorrectly to the police and rental agencies.
On return of the hire car at our departure airport we were told that we wouldhave no further costs to pay as it was all included under our Zero excesscover.

Imagine our surprise when we were charged £361 on our credit card for the theftof the radio.
When we queried this with Travel Jigsaw / Carhire 3000 / Rentalcars.com we weregiven lots of different reasons. The main one was that the small print (whichisn`t detailed enough) says that interior damage isn`t covered under the Zeroexcess policy. This was clearly theft. I was even informed in one e-mail thatthe damaged lock (clearly not inside the vehicle or underneath/part of awindow/tyre) was also included in the costs.

Basically the rental firm sell you extra Zero Excess insurance which appears tobe worthless as they shift the meaning and covered items around as they seefit.
I would advise anyone reading this to avoid hiring a car via the Travel Jigsawgroup who also go under the names of Carehire 3000 or Rentalcars.com.

Some other reviews regarding this company can be viewed online. Just type in "Traveljigsaw complaints"into a Google search engine and see what rears it`s ugly head.

We only wish we had searched for other peoples experiences prior to renting acar via this company. We will certainly not be utilising their services everagain.

  • Hi Bill,

Might be wrong here but i'm pretty sure the theft thing is if the car is stolen?

Like all car insurance I've ever had, contents usually aren't included! You do say that some interior parts aren't covered? To be honest I think if I wasn't sure I'd have rang them to check?
  • I too had an issue with these people. I tried to book a car for a golfing holiday, and the day before my departure they had not confirmed the availability of the vehicle. I then cancelled the booking, both verbally and by email. And booked another car from another company. AFTER my cancellation they told me that they could now confirm the vehicle. I immediately reconfirmed the cancellation. Didn't hear any further until a charge appeared on my credit card statement. There then followed a ridiculous argument in which they lied about the timing of the cancellation. The credit card company took up the cause on my behalf and thankfully I got reimbursed and they didn't get my money. I would never use this people again and would warn other would-be renters about them.

I thought the hire was confirmed straight away?
If they couldnt do the hire you wouldnt be able to book or at least thats what I thought
  • I do use travel jigsaw regulary and to me the company provides excellent service.
It may happen that when you enter your card details online a fraudster may access them but this has nothing to do with travel jigsaw.

This is just a general (complaint?) to warn other potential users off hiring cars from traveljigsaw.com (currently being redirected to carhire3000.com).

Last year my husband and I hired a car through traveljigsaw.com to enable us to take a relative around town who was visiting us as my husband did not have his own car at the time. My husband booked the car hire over the website (July 2010) and collected the car (a vauxhall astra) from Enterprise Aberdeen (off Hardgate). All was well initially. My husband's card was debited with £89 for 2 days' hire at the time of booking and we returned the car and keys just fine. A few weeks later a charge apppeared on my husband's credit card for just over £500 (from traveljigsaw). When he called to check he was told that a car had been hired (a ford I think) for an extra 5 days on his card! The name given when hiring was Melvin (my husband's name is Kelvin!) and apparently they gave our address and my husband's credit card details. They kept on passing us back and forth Enterprise blamed Jigsaw and vice versa until they said "talk to the credit card company". When he did so the credit card company did an investigation and refunded the money to his card. He later cancelled the card which was just as well because today he received an invoice by email from traveljigsaw for a 2 day rental from Aberdeen! When he called them up they asked for his credit card details to confirm which booking he was calling with reference to! Smelling something fishy he refused to give them the details and gave them the booking reference and insisted they search for the booking using the reference number. The operator (Nawal) came back with the last four digits of the card number being used in the booking which it turns out is the cancelled credit card! My husband called up the credit card company to confirm the card account (closed last year) is still closed and no charges have been made to the card. Fortunately for us the card is inactive but I would surmise that it is only this bit of good fortune that has prevented us from falling prey to these scam artists a second time. PLEASE for your own sanity STAY AWAY FROM TRAVELJIGSAW or CARHIRE3000.

    Thankyou.
