Fraud Problems with TravelJigsaw.com (carhire3000.com)

This is just a general (complaint?) to warn other potential users off hiring cars from traveljigsaw.com (currently being redirected to carhire3000.com).

Last year my husband and I hired a car through traveljigsaw.com to enable us to take a relative around town who was visiting us as my husband did not have his own car at the time. My husband booked the car hire over the website (July 2010) and collected the car (a vauxhall astra) from Enterprise Aberdeen (off Hardgate). All was well initially. My husband's card was debited with £89 for 2 days' hire at the time of booking and we returned the car and keys just fine. A few weeks later a charge apppeared on my husband's credit card for just over £500 (from traveljigsaw). When he called to check he was told that a car had been hired (a ford I think) for an extra 5 days on his card! The name given when hiring was Melvin (my husband's name is Kelvin!) and apparently they gave our address and my husband's credit card details. They kept on passing us back and forth Enterprise blamed Jigsaw and vice versa until they said "talk to the credit card company". When he did so the credit card company did an investigation and refunded the money to his card. He later cancelled the card which was just as well because today he received an invoice by email from traveljigsaw for a 2 day rental from Aberdeen! When he called them up they asked for his credit card details to confirm which booking he was calling with reference to! Smelling something fishy he refused to give them the details and gave them the booking reference and insisted they search for the booking using the reference number. The operator (Nawal) came back with the last four digits of the card number being used in the booking which it turns out is the cancelled credit card! My husband called up the credit card company to confirm the card account (closed last year) is still closed and no charges have been made to the card. Fortunately for us the card is inactive but I would surmise that it is only this bit of good fortune that has prevented us from falling prey to these scam artists a second time. PLEASE for your own sanity STAY AWAY FROM TRAVELJIGSAW or CARHIRE3000.

Thankyou.

On the other hand I hired a car with Carhire3000 in Las Vegas last month. No problems whatsoever, in fact on arrival they let me choose my car.

I will certainly use them again.

And just in case anyone thinks I am a newbie I have had to change my user name due to another poster stalking me.........

Would enterprise abedeen have the CC details as the OP booked via a broker on the web? I guess they would have if the OP left an imprint but dont know if you have to for hires in the UK.

I have used CH3000 a few times and not had the problem the OP has had

    Further to the post above:

My husband received an email from Traveljigsaw (2nd June 2011) to say the invoice sent was for the same (original) booking made last year (and not a new booking). They referred back to the email (sent last year after my husband raised the complaint about the second fraudelent booking charged to my husband's card for over £500). At the time they said the booking was not made through them and must have been booked through Europcar, further suggesting he contact them and request a chargeback from the credit card company.
The customer service agent said no charge has been made by them to my husband's card since.
  • I recently used this company to hire a car in Portugal the company they used was Goldcar, when we collected the car we had to pay for a full tank of fuel which we did not want to do.We wanted to bring the car back full so we only pay for what we use this was refused, they told us to bring the car back empty.
We only used the car for few miles and was only just below full when we returned it but they would not give us any refund on the £88 of fuel.
We have never had this with any other car hire firm we have used in Portugal and we go on a regular basis.
Definitely never have anything to do with this company again!!!!!!!!!

I have used Carhire 3000 for the last 3 years regularly and have had excellent service. I think jam2010 that you need to check properly when you order your carhire if you order online it is always in the terms whether the contract is for full to full or you pay for a full tank at the point of hire and return it empty. I always order my car from Carhire3000 by phone so the agent does the checking, and I usually ask for a firm that will supply full to full. Unless you can return the car almost empty it can be false economy going with the empty system. The trouble is many firms now are only operating this way. It may look cheap when you book but you have to take ALL the costs into consideration. It is not the agent's (ie Carhire3000) fault. Incidentally I always have an annual excess insurance policy with "Insuranceforcarhire" which only costs around £50 and means that when I get to the airport carhire desk I dont get all the hassle of them telling me what I am not covered for and them trying to charge me extra. Well worth the cost of this annual policy if you are regularly hiring cars.
  • I have used Carhire 3000 on several occasions with no problems, I have changed bookings and had no charges, they even refunded money because it was cheaper on my new dates. I feel that your situation is with someone else.

I don't know about Enterprise but I hired a car with Europcar via Holiday Autos (very similar type thing to Carhire3000) and Europcar asked for my credit card when collecting the car to pre-authorise the excess.

This usually is the way when I pick up cars too.
  • I too have used Carhire 3000 numerous times over a couple of years in several countries. The last time last November. Never had a problem so it does sound a one off. Carhire3000 has now been bought by another company has it not?
