With the menu for the Samsung, is there anything about using the two speakers or an external amp or surround sound?

So you've establish that the h/phones work and the TV works. I can sense your frustration now. In my opinion it would be pointless trying to connect them through the PS3 or any other scart attachment but it might be an interesting experiment. Similarly I can't see an HDMI lead cutting out the feed from the AV sockets but it could be interesting to change it to a scart lead and see what happens.

I've learned never to pooh-pooh any suggestion because I've been in similar situations and often it's the most bizarre thing which is causing the issue.

Excellent point. I hadn't considered the setup menu on the TV itself because normally the AV outputs would be on by default.

There is the option of using an 'external speaker', but that doesnt seem to do anything when I have the AV cables connected.I also turned the surround sound off but again that did nothing.

The PS3 can't have a Scart cable connected to it, only a HDMI cable. I'm getting so frustrated because I'm sure it's something very easy.

I'm afraid there's nothing else I can suggest but I'd be interested in knowing what the solution is when you find it.

If you get sound through the TV speakers from the PS3, but nothing coming from the L+R audio outputs on the back, then that suggests there's something in the TV setup that has disabled the audio outputs. Consult manual and/or menus for the TV to solve.

Re the earlier suggestion to hook up the headphone emitter to the speaker outputs (2x5w) - no, no, no.

Do you have any kind of HiFi system or audio system that you could connect to the TVs audio outputs, to see if you can get a signal that way?

You've established that the headphone component works by connecting it directly with the 3.5mm lead - so there's always the possibility that the emitter, even though it lights up, isn't emitting - i.e. it was faulty straight out of the box. You need to test the emitter and headphones with another source.

Lastly, the amazon listing says the volume control is integrated into the headphones - assuming this only affects the emitter signal, I take it you have the volume turned up?

Last option is that the HDMI lead is passing video only to the TV. The test for this is - do you get sound from the PS3 through the TV speakers?

A quick google tells me the PS3 has L+R audio outputs - what happens if you connect the emitter to these?

Thanks for all the advice googler.

I've gone through all the possible combinations on the TV setup but nothing seems to be working. So no to connecting the red & white cables to the L & R sockets in the back of the tv? Where should I connect them then?

I always keep the volume up on the headphones. It also produces a radio signal if you scan for stations. I dont need the emitter for that.

I'm getting sound from the TV speakers when I have my PS3 on. I've got a feeling it's something to do with the HDMI cable being used as to why I can't use the headphones correctly. I can't see L&R audio outputs on the PS3.

If you're getting PS3 sound through the TV speakers, the HDMI lead can't be at fault.

Do you have any other audio sources in the house that you could connect the emitter to, in order to see if it works with something else apart from the TV?

A Hi-Fi, iPod dock, radio, anything with L+R audio out....

Online sources suggest the PS3 has audio out - maybe a later model than yours?

    Another online source suggests;

"The PS3 includes several A/V cable options using the Multi-Out A/V connector on the back of the unit. Our PS3 included a standard A/V cable which includes no-frills RCA connectors with composite video and two-channel audio."

Does yours have this multi-out connector, and did you get a cable with two RCA connectors with it? If Yes to both, there's where to connect the RCA plugs on the emitter.

Something like this seems to be required

Along with a couple of RCA female-female couplers to connect the males on this type of lead to the males on your emitter.
