Good morning, all!
DNMS thanks for starting us off
catmiaow Oh lucky you! I hope that you are full of belgian chocs, beer and chips? I think I consumed about half my body weight in naughty food last time I was in Bruges, and that was just for an afternoon
Glad im not the only one working, jules!
I logged on early this morning and wondered where the thread was... Of course you all in the UK with your bank holiday are having a lie in! Jealous, no holiday here...
Had an absolutely bonkers weekend. As some of you know, i am an elderly lady trapped in a 23 year old body :rotfl: and in London spent my evenings crocheting, reading and watching Eastenders or slouched over a pint of bitter in the most proper old man pub I can find! But this weekend I was out clubbing until 5 am two nights in a row   Who knew that Kampala would kick start my social life...
So facing the week with dignity mostly still intactso today:
- Budget for June, going to be really tight if I keep my savings level as high as I need it to be...
- work hard at the office since the bank holiday in the UK has given me some respite from distractions via HQ
- look into room in a house share that a friend of a friend might be interested in
- took public transport in to work and will haggle for my boda into town this evening
- withdraw cash to pay the guard and maid (as one does
) and will deduct it from rent owed to roommate
- going out to dinner with friend, not very MSE but have some serious gossip to catch up on!
Enjoy your day (or days!) off, everyone!!Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010

Afternoon all:)
Have checked banking and worked on my budget for June. Put wash on line even though not nice outside the rain has stayed away most of the morning:)
Made a jelly for pudding tonight, got sausages out of freezer, was going to do mac and cheese until I realised carrots needed using up so sausages, mash and veg instead.
Joined the £365 in 365 days challenge, was going to do it online but I have made a box out of a cereal packet and covered it with paper and put a coin hole in the top, will be using this instead:)
I am also going to do the sealed pot challenge, need to make another pot first:D I may start saving £2 coins too maybe to save towards my planned holiday in 2012:)
I used to save like this when I joined the site in 2005, cleared my debt and then like an idiot ran more up and haven't been able to get rid of it since, so I am starting for real from 1st June. I need to crack on and work out my DFD so I have a target to beat:)November NSD's - 70 -
Today I:
* Made a travel toothbrush. Snapped a standard cheap toothbrush in half and sandpapered the edge smooth: hey presto! One short-handled toothbrush for my hols later in the year.
*Made a bedroom rubbish bin from a bucket.Tesco bins were £5.99. Tesco value black buckets were 99p. Popped a bin liner in and...you can't tell it's a bucket cos the handle is hidden by the bin bag.
*Defrosted chicken pieces for restaurant-at-home-evening.
*Planning a spend-free afternoon out as I'm off work today.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -

Candy - Congratulations on the car, sounds like it'll save you a lot each month if that's what the train cost you!!
Perni - how on earth do you do a meal plan for a whole month - I just about manage a week! Please, share your secret!!!
Mrs A - Weather dire here too, lucky wasn't planning to go out!

Yargo - good luck getting back on the wagon, you sound like you're starting with the right attitude!
Sparkerly - did you not get soaked cycling to the supermarket??!
cat - glad you had a good time in Bruges, I've been once before when I was 18, and spent about £60 on chocolate and nothing else! Very pretty little place though
Wannabe - sounds like you have a busy old day planned - btw I'm copying your idea about a spreadsheet for survey wins etc, I think it's GREAT! :T
ntby - wow, can't remember the last time I was out that late... makes me feel tired just thinking about it... oh you young things (saying this from an aged 27yo point of view!)
JAMIEDODGER - I like the idea of the £365 in 365 days - is it literally just saving a pound a day? I may do this for the rest of the year too...thanks!
ally - I love your home made things - what a genius idea with the travel toothbrush!

13. Do the other darks wash that has mysteriously manifested itself, dry naturally, PUT AWAY!!!
I managed a NSD yesterday, not much choice to be fair when you have approx. 13p in your purse!!! Ended up using the last fumes in my tank to drive VERY slowly down to my friends house for dinner which was lovely - they did a slow cooked chilli, and we had rice with peas in, potato wedges and corn on the cob with it, and sour cream and cheese - it was a lovely unexpected night and I made it back without running out of fuel! Just enough to get the 2 miles to the garage tomorrow when paid!!!
Today a very quiet day planned, I have tomorrow off as well (payday!) so today I need to get everything on my list done for once, no excuses!!! And I REALLY must crack on with my OU work, been very slack lately - I blame this site, I've become obsessed!!!
Have a great BH Monday all! Payday tomorrow, yay! :j

Hi all :hello:
Today I have : -- Had £14.30 on an Argos gift card that I got after sending an old mobile phone to an online recycler of such things - got desperately needed pillows and even managed to get them half price
- A few things need renewed at home so I spent a pound on a money tin, the type you need a tin opener to get into
and will put £1 and £2 coins in it. For the first time in years I will be saving for what I need instead of plastic carding it
- Checked online banking and transferred some money to my ISA - at last I am saving!
- Reconciled all spreadsheets and all seems well
- Meal planned for the week to prevent temptation later on
- Joined June's NSD challenge - NSD challenges are cool :T
- Edited to add that I sold an old broken laptop on Ebay for £50 :j:j:j

Hi everyone,
I too am working today (buy at least it`s time and a half). I`m on my split break and am chilling out a bit. Had a LSD so far, had to nip for essentials - bread, milk and chocolate.
I`ve checked Ebay, have had another small sale to add to the two yesterday. Not a lot but it all adds up and will go in my moving fund.
I`ve had an email off Egg, they have finally closed my credit card, nearly 2 months since i cleared it and asked them to.
The sun is out up here but it is still really windy, i`m begining to wonder why I bothered to put plants in this year, two of my tomotoes are mostly stalk. I keep hoping for some still, sunny weather to help them recover.
Still to do today:
Walk pooches.
Check for surveys.
Tea of left over HM curry from last night. Yum.
Go back to work at 4.30 till 10.30.0 -
Pernicious wrote: »Candy - If the car works out cheaper then the train each month then you've made the right call, congrats! How old is the car if it was only £400? I hear you on the stereo front, can't be dealing without music if I'm by myself in the car! & also how is your insurance so cheap?! I am paying about double that now & I'm in my third year of driving!
Hi Perni,
The car is R reg - not perfect but ok for the price - it looks as though someone has gone into the side and the bonnet is all dented, but it passed an MOT a couple of days ago so all good
Although it is my first car, I have had my licence since 2002 and have been a named driver on hubby cars in this time.....Try quidco compare to see what quotes you get

Hi all!
Perni - how on earth do you do a meal plan for a whole month - I just about manage a week! Please, share your secret!!!
Well, it's not the best meal plan in the world tbh as we don't always stick to it!
I just try to write a rough guide so when I go shopping I know what I need for the next week or 2, & don't end up buying a tonne of stuff & then don't have anything to go with it & also to ensure fresh veg etc gets used before it goes off! We regularly swap things around too, say for example I've got down lasagne tonight (made from scratch) & fajitas tomorrow, but I really can't be bothered to cook for long or have lasagne we'd just swap it over so it all works out still.
Plus I always try & have a jar of pasta bake or fish fingers & chips in the freezer, so if I've planned to make something from scratch but it turns out we need something quick & easy that we can pretty much bung in the oven & leave then we can!:idea:Debt at July 2012: £12,862.57
