Hi, like you Silky, we went for the first time 2 years ago in July. I was great and I can't wait to go back! Very hot !

We stayed at the Hilton, beds were amazing and needed for our jetlag...need to sort this out next time as we missed quite a lot..didn't think it would effect like that.

The Hilton was amazing but off the strip, however it did have a monorail between a few hotels. We went to LA for a few days in a hire car which wasn't too far, we then came back a little early and booked at the Paris through Hotel.com. What I noticed was the amount of hotel rooms available. Vegas has thousands of hotels so usually has empty rooms. We also ate at the all you can eat buffets which are in most hotels and really cheap.

We visited a few hotels, all seem quite near when looking but when you start walking they are quite far...take walking shoes!! Didn't really like Circus Circus, it felt a bit like Haven holidays...lots of kids, but did have an indoor funfair. We liked the location of the Paris as it was more central.

When we do it next time, we will book the flights, then the hotel, then plan trips etc...not sure about the Gran Canyon, don't think I could do the 5 hour drive each way

Good look with your trip :)

LOVE Vegas...I recommend The Signature at MGM Grand. We've stayed there a couple of times and last time saved £££ by booking through Luxury Suites International. Also recommend Encore at The Wynn but that is waaay more pricey.

As others have said you will need comfy shoes! I love my food and always enjoy the various buffets, Cheesecake Factory etc. but every time I go to Vegas I actually lose weight from all the walking around!! (I call it the Vegas Diet!!)

    Enjoy your trip!

For budget hotels in a decent location I would consider the Imperial Palace and Excalibur. Both around the price of CC, but in a far better location.

You can get the IP from $20/night and no resort fee

If you are going for 5 days (can't remember how long you said), make sure it is Sun-Thurs. Friday and Saturday nights are more than double the weekday nights.

Well you're just a wee bit rude aren't you!

All i was doing was trying to help him out, I got the fact wrong about the weather- I have been 4 times, in April,June,September and beg. of November and each time it has been blistering heat.

I have stayed at Circus Circus twice, Excalibur once and for a treat we stayed in Bellagio once.

I liked Circus Circus- others loathe it. It is personal preference.

    Blunt yes-rude no

Rude would be saying don't listen to an idiot who has no idea what they are talking about yet professes to be an expert whilst spouting duff info .
You obviously consider your little error about the weather to be trivial-somehow I doubt if the OP had listened to you and booked non refundable flights for himself and his (already mentioned) sunloving wife in midwinter-he'd consider it quite so trivial.

I never said I was an expert on Las Vegas- just offered my advice. If the OP booked a non refundable flight on the basis of what one person had said on an Internet forum then I would claim they were the idiot.

    Great tips thanks.

just been on expedia but flights not out for june/july next year.

We live in north yorks so our nearest big airport is Newcastle but I doubt you can get a flight to Vegas from there. Thinking about airports Im sure Manchester will do flights, but for recomends who is a good flight company to fly with?

Also when do you think flights will become available for next year??

July is probably the most expensive month of the year to travel -I'd look at May or October if possible. US school holidays run from June so June fares are a bit high too.

I went out earlier this month with Continental flying Heathrow Las Vegas -I paid £450 booking in March (I waited for a fare sale but if I'm remembering correctly there was an early booking sale some months previously at about the same price)

For hotels -where-ever you stay you'll do a heck of a lot of walking.
You could stay on Strip somewhere really central like Imperial Palace-great location but rooms are pretty much Travelodge level but honestly you'll spend so little time in your room it is very much an individual thing how much that will matter to you.

I had one night in Vegas then flew out to attend an event elsewhere and flew back later for 3 nights in Vegas before going home. I was originally booked into Ceasars Palace -and the room was gorgeous -but I changed my reservations for the 3 nights later on (by phone from a car park in Utah on a whim :) ) to an old favourite of mine The Orleans-It's just off Strip -but with an excellent free shuttle that runs from 9am to midnight -rooms are huge with a seperate sitting area and lots of reasonably priced eating places (eg huge all you can eat buffet breakfast is $7 -compared with $18 plus most places on the Strip). I had a great stay there -it's actually the first place I ever stayed in Vegas and we still return from time to time . A weekend night there will run about $80 and the midweek nights anything from $29 upwards. It's a shorter trip to the middle of the Strip from the Orleans than from more remote hotels like Circus Circus that are technically on the Strip. As an added bonus the pool at the Orleans is really nice -of all the budget hotels I think it wins on that.

Flying from Newcastle would either be via London -or fly to Amsterdam and onwards avoiding the hassle which is Heathow.

  • The flight timetable usually comes out 11 months before I think, so you would be looking around August/September for June/July next year.

Virgin fly direct from Manchester Thursday and Sunday but they are not cheap, you could try Thomas Cook who i think fly direct from Manchester.

Virgin not cheap?? - you just need to keep an eye on things as you can be pleasantly surprised at times .They are currently less than £600 for a return from MAN to LAS in July. (£602 on their own website, less than £600 if using a cashback site or 1 3rd party site). The day they announced the potential pilots strike they dropped their price on this route by just under £200.
