i think icelands ok for some stuff like cheese, and branded sausages the do a big bag of white fish thats very good value, i've also been known to buy there cheapo pizza and add toppings, i only buy the plain one tho because i dread to think what meat is on a pizza for £1, you can also get supernoddles on offer, and they do 4 beans for £1 which is the cheapest we can get them round here
Thats what I thought about the meat pizza too Hahah! I went in to get a stuffed crust pizza, as I've been off the takeaways for a month now and the temptation of something cheesy garlicky and greasy is getting too much!

I did get 5 garlic baguettes for 2 quid which will do nicely when I have my 9 girlfriends over for dinner next month :)
I didn't look too far but the one near me (MK) seemed full of horrible ready meals and the fresh veg they did have looked a bit mank :( will check out the frozen fish tho, as we eat that regularly :)

    Toodles*
haven't tried l!dl yet, but will this month! My ex loved their own brand bitter from there, till he got sick drunk on it, he cant stand the sight of it now :rotfl:

Also forgot to mention, I am picking up Xmas pressies if I see them too (too early?! ) got a puzzle book for my mum in aldi :) figured if I can spend a few quid a month now, I won't be so stuck in January next year after spending hundreds in December!

Good luck to all on the challenge :)

  • Hello new thread and a big thank you to the lovely ladies who put so much time and effort into maintaining it!!

so first shop of the new month and we are £35 down already, but that does include teabags for 2-3 months (MrS red - get the 2*240 packs not the 1*480 as works out cheaper) and a mag for hubby so i'm going to get the money back from him. actually that takes me down to £29, not that bad :D

i've never done a grocery challenge before, but it is badly needed, i have a bad habit of buying expensive (and often tasteless!) ready meals and stuff for when i get home from work, need to start bulk cooking, planning meals in advance and freezing the extras. my june budget is £125 (this is for me, DD, 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs) i think this will be a tough target to hit, but do-able. i may relax my budget next month (july) but want to give myslef a kick start and see if i can have some pennies left in my bank account at the end of the month. :) good luck everyone!

Back in the UK after 2 years in Germany and the Netherlands. I badly need to get my head back into pounds sterling mode rather than Euro mode. Add to this the fact that I now have 3 kids and a cat (rather than 2 and a non-weaned baby and no cat) and the fact that prices seem to have gone haywire in the last 2 years and I don't have a clue anymore what is sensible for our family.
Please put me down for £400 this month MrsM whilst I try and get back on the wagon again!

    Me too :o

I saw in Lakeland (I think) a magnetic blackboard with a white marker that I could tick on the front of the freezer. Maybe then I would actually strike things off the list?

I got a white board magnetic with a dry marker from Poundland, have put it on front of my chest freezer.
