Hi everyone!
I'm trying out some new challenges...
Can you put me down for £80 (for two adults).
I'm late, but I've totted up the money I've spent already... so far I've spent £37.10 and that will take me to the 14th June hopefully!
I want to aim to get it down to around £60 eventually. Normally I reckon I spend around £120-£140 a month so £80 is already going to be a challenge for me for now!Debt Free No Longer Wannabe

Oh my life!! Page 14 already!!!
Sorry i have been AWOL, half term and life in general getting in the way, but i have been keeping to my challenge!!:D
Please can i have £150 budget for June. I have already spent £110 of this on my big shop, but that will easily last me 2 months (plus a top up of fruit and veg, etc). So that leaves me £40 for fresh food for the month. No problemo!!
I have been given 2 punnets of strawbs and i would like some advice on optimal use of them (aside from a big bowl with ice cream/condensed milk mmmmmm).
We are not too keen on cheesecakes, and my pastry skills have just stretched to strawberry tarts (clotted cream topped with strawb jelly). any other ideas? i did see a crumble recipe but i would have thought strawbs were too sweet for a crumble?
Also, my chives and sage have lovely purple flowers on them at the moment, and i was wondering - can these be eaten? and if so, does anyone have any ideas on their uses (aside from adding to a salad).
Thank you and best of luck all for June. :T I cant believe its half way through 2011 already?!:eek:DFBX2016 #160 - £3550/£8800

Strawberries - I would make scones and serve with strawberries.
Chives - the flowers can be eaten in a salad, I have never fancied it myself. But I cut mine off the plant even though they look pretty because it encourages the plant to keep producing shoots.
I had to pick up a few bits today. So signature updated. Managed to get some whoopsied f&v.0 -

I love making strawberry muffins as they go squidgy like blobs of jam and are yummy!0 -
Well had a productive pm with littlest ds and made microwave brownies and my first batch of Twinks, omg they are so yum.
Had a cupoa and a twink each when older ds got in from school, think i may need to hide them!
Only thing is I have used last of the sr flour so will have to pop to shops again, but just go to aldi as I will need dog food later in the week and more bananas, how can we go through so many?
Was going to make bread but forgot with the baking, nevr mind tomorrow I guess0 -
It is absolutely possible and i bet you'll have change out of that £30
You can see what I spend from my signature and thats for 3x people and 3x animals. Your cats i'm sure would manage a few weeks on dry food (about 90p for a box from Asda, mine prefer the salmon one and wont touch the one with veggies!) A £3 chicken would easiy do you 3x meals, chicken pasta, fajitas, pie, rice to name a few. Sausages for the usual dishes, mincemeat for burgers, chilli, spag bol. Smoked salmon trimmings from asda is less than £1 and does us 2 main meals of Salmon pasta.
It is really do-able.
As others have suggested I would list what you already have and see what meals you can make from that.
Good luck x:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0 -
I see a lot of you make bread so this is probably the best place to ask my bread question. I really like making my own bread - there's nothing quite like the smell of bread baking and also fiercely kneading dough is a great way to release some stress! I don't have a breadmaker and no space to put one so I make it all by hand (which is fine - I rather enjoy it). BUT my question is how to keep it fresh? I find when I make it, it tastes beautiful when it's hot but it goes really hard very quickly. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone solve my bread problem? Thanks!0
