Sneaky Tesco

I bought some Christmas cards today from Tesco. When I got them out of the packet it has a statement printed on the back that these cards can be recycled at Tesco store throughout January 2007!

This mean that it will look obvious that they are leftover cards if I want to send them out next year, or buy reduced price ones after Christmas. I know that this might not bother some people, but there are many that wouldn't bother and just buy new ones.

I have not noticed any other companies do this with their Christmas cards - what blatant profiteering.

i have no shame, my current whsmith ones i am sending all have across the back that they can be recycled up to jan ? 2006, and i have discovered i have some left over from the year before. (yes, they've been sent out this year too!)

what the hell says i, its the thought, not the price that counts in my view!

I have just sat and written out 25 cards before realising that they too have a bit printed on the back about recycling them at WH Smith before 31st January 2006.

Would not bother me, I am still using cards I bought in the sales 2 years ago.......but then people know I am a cheapskate..... sorry careful with my cash. I hate paying over the odds for something which is thown away by a vast majority of people, I use a pair of pinking shears and cut up my cards to make labels and tags for next years presents anyway......

I dont think ive ever looked on the back of a card before!!!! I dont mind how old a card is, its the thought that counts!!!!
  • if the cards were nice it wouldn't bother me - but if i had the choice of buying some without a use by date (iyswim) then i would choose them.

I wouldn't mind if I received a card with such a message on the back. But then it's likely that I will be sending similar cards out anyway. It's much better to have a card used then recycled, rather than simply recycled, IMO. If any of my friends got a bit snobby about it, I doubt if they'd still be on my Christmas card list next year as their values and outlook in life would be at odds with mine.
