Post Office broadband dropping connection

For the past number of weeks my broadband connection has been disconnecting with annoying frequency. I've replaced filters and ethernet cables as instructed by their helpline people, the latest reason they have come up with is it is because I do not leave the modem on permanently ( I admitted to the helpline bod that the computer and modem are switched off at night). Is this indeed the case, should a modem be left on permanently?
There is absolutely NO problem in your modem being switched off at night, there is no correlation whatever in that being the cause of drop outs. They should not even have suggested that.
Just out of interest, do you have a DECT phone, if so, is the base unit close to the modem, if yes, move that as far away as possible from the modem.
Have you checked your line for noise ?, pick up the phone dial a single digit and listen to see if there is any crackling or similar, you will get a tone after a few seconds, just repeat the sequence to listen again.
When it connects what speeds do you get ?
What is the make and model of your router ?
Can you surf into the modem settings and get the line status. ?, attenuation, SNR.
How far are you away from the exchange?0 -
It's a ZyXEL P-66OR-T1 v2 and it was supplied by the post office about 18 months ago0

If a DECT phone is cordless, the base unit is about 4 metres away. We get about 6.5mbs download speed. There is no noise on the phonline. I was a bit suspicious about the not switching the modem off business but I can but try it for about 10 days or whatever. Ironically the connection seems to be ok now0

User Guide for Zyxel devices. This PDF is for your specific device. Page 27 indicates it is ADSL2+ compatible, and it is a modem/router with a single LAN port and no wifi.0

Our Post Office broadband did this for the duration. Complete nightmare, and that was with a brand new wireless router, that never worked wirelessly at all. I hope you get more help from them than I did. If you at the end of your contract maybe a new provider will be beneficial. I tried everything to improve mine, next door allowed me to connect to their wireless via a belkin dongle and that worked fine. Post Office was the issue for us. We had previously had Sky, and although not great, it was far better than PO.
I hope you get it resolved very soon.Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0 -

Yes. When it is turned off and on, it is detected by the network and can be treated as a fault if it repeats. If it is treated as a fault your line then gets reprofiled at a lower speed and tested again. If it drops connection, it gets reprofiled lower again and repeats until it stabilises. Every time it does this it'll drop the connection.0
