With DLA being phased out - maybe not in so many words but the vast majority of us will lose it - what happens re Motability cars ? I'm due to renew in Nov but not sure what will happen when they stop my money. What is everybody else doing about this ?

The vast majority will lose it? Uhm no, not at all.
They are replacing it with PIP if that is what you are thinking of and this will still have a higher rate for mobility which can be used with the Motability scheme. They've already confirmed that.
Either you've gotten a bit mixed up with what's happen or you've been listening to too many scaremongers."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
I believe the new system will not come into force untill 2014 so you should be fine for your car renewal in Nov. Im not actualy sure how the new system will work but if you are in need of DLA now then you will have nothing to worry about when the system comes in, as all they are trying to do is weed out those who dont need it and give it to those who really do need it.0

I'm watching what's happening re ESA and it's not good. But anyway thanks. I just wondered what everybody else was going to do.0

If the new PIP assessment says you cannot have the HRM, then you cannot have the car anymore. Something that will need to be remembered is that a few people will have been given DLA HRM 'for life', the 'for life' bit is now stopping. I think it's fair that if people have made a recovery from something which did affect them, but no longer does, then they should give up that benefit. Those that do still need it though, should still get it.
The assessments are not being done by ATOS, I've had a call about doing a trial assessment to ensure they are giving out fair results from the assessments and it will be G4S doing the assessments.0 -
In the Motability documentation somewhere or it might have been on their site, it said that if you lost benefit you would need to be financially able to continue the monthly payments yourself to keep the car."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0

It says this in the contract paperwork you get. I phoned them up about this though as when I got my car last year, I only got DLA HRM until the end of June this year and asked, as you say, if I needed to be able to make the payments beyond if I do not get it this year. The answer was no because they appreciated that peoples health can change and they do make allowances for things like that, it is listed in the paperwork more to cover themselves and has only been acted upon if the car is attempted to be returned in a terrible state.0 -

Yes of course they do usually give you the option of the returning it my point was only that if you did wish to keep it then you could so long as you could afford the payments for it."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

I was under the impression that once your HRM or WP ran out, you had to give it back. I guess you learn something new everyday! Thanks0 -

Will they take the car back and call it quits or do they make you keep it for the remainder of the contract is what I meant.0
