well regarding the transferring of money btwn 2 santander ac's to get the £100, thats what we have been doing so I can get a personal account and we also have joint account, latter opened first money paid from husbands HSBC into my account I transfer it to the joint (as I don't work so don't have income required for decent account!)..we just got paid the £100 in this week having opened the account on 1st July...

This might be because it would appear to be the previous version (Preferred In Credit Rate) rather than the Preferred Current Account as mentioned in posts #41 and #45 as the current one states (HERE) that the account must be opened between the 4 July to 11 September. You mention that you opened yours on 1 July, so would have permitted transfers from other Santander accounts.
  • Of course the ideal number of Santander accounts is zero.

I just got my Joining Incentive this month for account that I opened it 4 moths ago.

Just be aware, you will only get incentive if you open the account online + of course another requirement (Switching, minimum monthly payment, etc) , not by telephone.

I just happened to know after I equerry to ask why my incentive have not been paid and they explain.

I raise complaint and now get my incentive paid.

The account that's paying 5% on balances up to £2,500 for 12 months (but nothing on any amounts over that) is called a Preferred Current Account. In order to satisfy the 5% interest you must pay in £1,000 per anniversary month (not calendar month). This doesn't have to be a salary, it can be transferred in from elsewhere (but must come from an external account, not from another Santander account) and doesn't have to one figure of £1,000 it could be multiples that total £1,000.

If you're not an exisiting customer of Santander, Alliance & Leicester, Cahoot or Cater Allen, or held an account with any of them in the last 3 months then you can "switch" an exisiting account that you have with someone else to Santander's Preferred Current Account, then you can get £100 switching cashback. To qualify for this you must open the account using their Account Transfer Service, and have at least 2 standing orders or direct debits in your existing account that would be switched to the new Santander Preferred Current Account.
  • The T&C state two active DD or SO need to be transferred to qualify. Does this mean that payments need to have been made via SO/DD from the account I am transfering? Or is it ok to set up new SO prior to transfer with first payments going out after move to Santander?

The reason I ask, i want to transfer a spare account from LloydsTSB and will need to first setup a few SO to qualify.

    Thanks
  • DD or SO must already be in operation with account you are transferring from.
  • So if I setup new SO in my LloydsTSB account, they need to have "operated" at least once before I transfer the account?
