Just came across this on RBS and its also on natwest,
You’ll need to open an account on or after 23rd May and pay in at least £1,000 every month. Over 18s only. Read the full terms and conditions.

When did this happen? 23rd? and what happens if someone has small college grants or JSA? and wants to bank with RBS/NATWEST?

surely this cant be right ?

Reason why i asked this is because im helping my cousin to get a bank account and we was gonna go with RBS... and i don't remember seeing this a few weeks ago...

Not from what I can see. There are several RBS experts/staff who use this forum, I'm sure one will be along soon with a definitive answer.

You seem to have picked out one of the T&C's relating to the debit card cashback offer for new current accounts.

There's nothing more to it than that.

If it's an account for your cousin and they are old enough to operate an account, why do you have to go with them to a branch 5 mins from where you are?

They are opening the account, not you. What do they prefer? (Answering own question: Having hand held by someone while they grow up.)

because hes very shy and doesn't understand im just there in case he doesn't get offers for credit cards or make a mistake during the account opening and so on..

calling hand held? no.. just looking out for a family member because like i said hes very shy and does have problems..

(which i wont address on this forum)

I have Natwest current plus account. I applied online for rbs current plus account and I got a confirmation that I'll be recieving an information pack with prepaid envolve to return it with passport copy/payslips etc or to take it directly to local branch.

After that, rbs offered me to apply for savings/loans/cc as well which I declined.

Now regarding debit card purchases, does paying HMRC tax is considered a direct debit purchase? Shame cashback doesn't apply on point of sale at retailers.
