don't quite understand to be honest, the problem is that although baby jesus was mentioned and part of play there wasn't enough time given to him?

Now I don't believe in "baby jesus" but even I have to wonder... a nativity play and no baby jesus? Uhmmm seems a little incorrect - certainly if they actually called it a nativity play...

There was an article about this in one of the Sunday papers yesterday. Yes, it's PC, yes, it's 'fear of offending other religious groups', yes, it's the creeping secularism - people like the OP who 'can't stand all this religious !!!!!!' and are happy to go straight on to Santa and elves (what have they to do with the Nativity?) I won't say what I think of all of these type of 'reasons'. I just think it's desperately sad. Yes, a Nativity Play without the central person i.e. the person whose nativity it is all about, is like MSE without Martin.

dont get me wrong i was just very surprised at the way the play was done !! obviously im not religious but neither did it offend me to watch the nativity scene in xmas plays i just never realised how much society has changed in a year !! i cant understand why people would think it offensive ? everyone is entitled to believe in what they choose

  • I work in a school and we always do a nativity but some of the teachers are making noises about doing "something different" next year as the children "get bored with the same story".

Git to say I will be in opposition to that as doesn't matter how many I see I am always moved...even after a million rehearsals!!

Can I suggest you enquire at some of the churches round about, whether they have a junior church, Sunday School, whatever they call it - we call ours the FJ Club (FJ means Following Jesus). And get involved - our church has a mother and toddler group called Happy Hands, from that we're getting some very young members and their parents are all very enthusiastic. We're the local Methodist Church.

This coming Sunday and the one after there will be children's Nativity Services in church, usually 4 pm in the afternoon followed by tea and mince pies, carols sung, children acting the parts, and they are usually lovely. Or a Christingle service. Your daughter will get the real information there rather than the mis-information she has been fed at her 'multi-cultural' school.

I remember when my daughters went to a village school in Kent, 100 pupils, the parish church was just across the road, the vicar taught RE, they were back and forth between school and church all the time, that was in the early 1970s. The carol service and nativity play used to be in church, and it was lovely. The children are missing out on their Christian heritage. Even earlier, I grew up on the King James Bible and the 17th century Book of Common Prayer, the wonderful resonant language. It's all part of our history. The early trade unionists spoke in that beautiful archaic language.
