The point is, that people who sell regularly as 'private' sellers who are actually not, can afford to undercut business sellers who have a lot more overheads, thereby having an affect on a business sellers sales and ultimately their business viability. Don't get me wrong on the whole I do agree. However if a seller regularly sells on a private account when they are clearly a business then ebay should be picking up on it. I don't think someone selling a couple of charity shop bargains every 6 months is really something I can get het up about. I would rather spend the time making my business better, than worrying about how to wreck someone elses. I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around...LOL

I am not disagreeing with you. There are people that have numerous 'private' accounts to take advantage of the 100 free listings and that is not on, but again ebay should be clamping down on this.

As for paying tax....I pay mine and feel everyone should pay what they owe, however enforcing it is another matter. It is not cost effective for Inland revenue officers to be investigating private sellers on ebay that sell a couple of boot fair bargains every 6 months - whether they are liable for tax or not. The cost to the IR would outweigh the gain. They are better going after the bigger fish and unfortunately people know this.

People are just playing the system and breaking the rules they can get away with (for now) and whilst this is not right as a business seller I factor in these 'inconveniences' when deciding on my stock and profit margins and prices...etc...

Like I said I am not disagreeing with you - I just don't sweat the small stuff....;)...and I am assuming (rightly or wrongly) that the OP is 'small stuff' - No offence OP....LOL

I do agree, what gets me though - and I'm not lumping the OP in with this, they just happen to have triggered my response - are the 'private sellers who are blatantly businesses. I have come accross so many, who are selling dozens of the same item etc, that ebay should easily pick up on, but for some reason don't.

Also I'm a bit miffed at the moment, as I recently purchased some stock wholesale and am selling it for a very modest mark up, at about the same price as 2 or 3 other business sellers (who have abviously also cut their profit margin to the minimum they can and still remain viable), and yet there are two 'private' sellers, selling the same item obviously sourced from the same wholesaler, and are undercutting us all:mad:

Yes it is frustrating.....I know you shouldn't have to compensate for those type of traders but it is a fact of life now. There is always someone willing to bend/break the rules to get a leg up over eeryone else. I used to sell in the 'tech' catergories and found I just was increasingly unable to compete with the Chinese sellers. That is why I have diversified and buy stuff like 'water purification plants' - see above post. The sort of people you are moaning about don't touch stuff like that as they are after a fast buck and don't want to put legwork in.

I bought an item a few weeks ago for a good price and i wanted it quick so i bought it from a "UK seller". To my annoyance the item was coming from China and it took three weeks to arrive instead of a few days as i wanted. They were also A LOT cheaper than U.k. sellers. From what I can gather the items are posed from the factory or a Chinese warehouse.
