And for a grand it'll look and drive like the sheep had the better of it.
trooper or 75??
There are some true bargains to be had out there if your lucky and you happen to be in the right place at the right time. Last year a friend bought an N reg micra with full dealer service history for £250 it only had 30k on the clock, the old couple that had sold it used it every day for very short trips, always garaged and had a full service every year from new, regardless if it needed it or not. I expected it too look like the average student micra for that money but when I saw it, it was pristine there wasn't a mark on it not even a stone chip. He hasn't had a single problem with the car. The old couple only got rid of because they gave up driving, it had no real value to them they just wanted it gone. This 75 sounds like it could be one of those gems that some lucky !!!!!! is going to get.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

We had Vauxhall Monterays at work for the Duty Officers to run about in. I am sure they were basically an Isuzi Trooper with a Vauxhall badge?
Not 100% sure about that but they were a wallowy old turd when they were new and never go better when they got older.
When they replaced them in 2001 with Galaxy tdi Autos there was more than one sigh of relief.
Used to go through brakes and clutches like you wouldn't believe.
The ones we had were on an M reg.
Low mileage one owner Rover 75 diesel auto for a grand is a no brainer, get it bought, an 05 plate for a grand, get it bought quickly, is worth £2500 all day long down south.
But the diesels have a good rep down in London. Would almost certainly end up being a private hire car for a few years.
Uber comfy and an easy 50mpg.
Make sure you do 5k oil changes with decent spec oil.0 -
It's an 05 plate with 17k on the clock, owned by an old boy who's giving up driving. He's had it from new and been serviced every year lately by a good independant garage. With 11 months tax and ticket, it's a good spec car with leather, seems to drive ok so I think I'll give him the grand he's asking for it.
Screw thinking, get it bought... if you don't like it you'll get triple that back. Easily.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
The point of having a diesel is for economy. An automatic kills this purpose. One of the reasons I wouldn't have bought it. You'd be lucky to see 25MPG with a diesel that's an automatic towing around an almost 1600kg.
Anyways, if I'm not mistaken, at one point Rover bought a batch of BMW (diesel?) engines for their cars. This could have included the later 75's before they ceased production. If that's the case, then mechanically, I guess you wouldn't need to worry about anything beyond what any BMW engine would normally face. They should be sturdy and durable, but a paycheck rape when they break.0 -
A GRAND for an 05 diesel auto?

This sounds beyond fake. I mean, if the owner put it up on ebay, he'd snatch a good £2,500+ on a 3 day listing. Any longer and it should exceed 3k+.
Buy a car for £20,000 and happily sell it for £1,000 5 years later. Sorry, but either the owner is stupid rich and couldn't care, or his selling/sold you a dud looking to break down.
I watched a few Volvo V40's go on ebay, 1999 models for £1,250+ and 2004 models for £3,500+. Either the cars a failure, or you are one extremely lucky !!!!!!.0 -

The rover 75 and MG ZT diesel throughout the range is the BMW unit and even coupled with an auto box will see a lot more than 25mpg. IIRC the figures for the manual are in the high 40's and high 30's for the autos. As I said earlier if you add the ron tuning box you'll get more.
As for a paycheck rape please find me a car (and i'm being serious) thats a diesel that won't require stupid money to fix when it breaks. I'm looking at changing my car now and every estate i'm looking at around 2001-2005 in the 2k bracket talks of some serious failures with most repairs around the 1k mark. Vauxhall vectra fuel pump failure, ford mondeo DMF and injector, Laguna Electric problems all the new cars seem to just fail on everything. Having spent 1k last year changing the fuel pump on my astra its scary, I remember changing one a few years ago on a petrol fiesta and it was under £100 inc fitting lolEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Go back to post #6 its an old boy giving up driving, its unlikely he wants the hassle of dealing with people from advertising and ebay is probably out of reach. I have seen too many old people do very similar things when they give up driving, they just want it gone its of no value to them what so everEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Rover only ever bought one engine from BMW - the M47R. This was only used in the 75 & ZT, and the 75 & ZT only used that one diesel engine.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0
