And your point is????
I can quite simply ask my FIL what the price would be. You couldn't exactly prescribe medicine by proxy could you?0 -
I wouldn't use them then, they are far too expensive
St Pancras is just behind the London Eye, a few streets away. So I shouldn't think it would cost more than £10 or £12 each way.
You said my £15-£20 estimate was way too high, then go on to say that St Pancras is only a few streets away from the London Eye and the cost will be £10-£12, which doesn't sound like information a cabbie would give, hence I concluded that you hadn't talked to your FIL and thus the mere fact that he is a cabbie was as relevant as my brother being a doctor.
Ultimately it was just what I thought was a funny comment based on your original posts being a bit geographically astray.0 -

Thanks for all your help. Can I ask a simple question do you pay for the journey rather than how many ride in the cab? I think it will be just as far as he can go to get to the end of the station at St Pancras so the more I think about it taking a wheel chair would give us more options and make the day less hassle rather than having to stop for a rest every 100yrds or so. After thinking about it my mum may struggle, we may need a double buggy LOL.The measure of love is love without measure0

With a black cab, it's a mixture of both.
There are flat rate charges for numbers of people, luggage and so on, then there is the charge for the journey.
So when you pull away, the meter will start at less if it's just you in the cab, but more if there are others and luggage.
Once on the move, the meter ticks up the same, however the cab is loaded.
Nothing to stop you asking for a quote from the driver before you pull away.
Edit: Ooops, seems there are no extra charges for passengers or luggage - used to be at one time because there were arguments over the dimensions of cases.
Thanks to susancs - below - for bringing me up to date.
Official fares here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/taxisandminicabs/taxis/1140.aspx0 -
You can get details on London Cabs on the offical Transport For London site.
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/taxisandminicabs/taxis/1140.aspx
There is a minimum fare of £2.20 at all times.
How it works:
The meter calculates the maximum fare based on:- Time of day
- Distance travelled
- Time takenExtra charges
Extra charges must be added on the meter at the start of the journey. There are no extra charges for luggage, additional passengers or carrying of assistance dogs. - London black cabs carry five people plus luggage and metro cabs 6 people.
