I called them during the week to ask who could get a debit Mastercard and they said it was still credit scored and they issue the Maestro and Mastercard but they are going to be replacing all of the cards with Mastercards. They could not tell me when but 9 months is an odd validity period so I imagine that is why and your next card will be a debit Mastercard.

Well that makes sense but I find it odd that I have the Maestro anyway - I have a full current account, with an overdraft facility and until they were phased out I had a cheque guarantee card too.
  • **BUMP

so to re bump this thread but when i spoke to Yorkshire bank about changing my card form maestro to a more accepted one they refused without giving a reason, this is really annoying due to the fact this is my only card, my wages are paid into to id prefer not to have to switch banks, as are my direct debits i.e mobile contracts.

i have an android mobile and google refuses my type of card, as does ebay without going through paypal (whom i dislike, the whole paying to get your own money back into your own bank thing)

also found out my local pub no longer accepts my style card either on their machines

    :T well done yorkshire bank

I've also had two Maestro transactions refused in the past couple of weeks, never had a problem before, i'm also with Yorkshire Bank who i think are a bit prehistoric with their methods and banking style, would love to change banks but i have direct debits so it might be a hassle. Why is there so much hassle just trying to pay for things online with YOUR OWN MONEY THAT IS IN THE BANK! Instead of a credit card which is technically not your money?! I'm not in debt I HAVE THE MONEY!

Assuming it's not a Cashminder account why don't you just ask them to upgrade you to Debit Mastercard? The request takes 5 mins.

Otherwise, changing banks is quite easy as THEY contact your DD payees and advise them of the new details. YB/CB are dinosaurs.

Well why don't you change banks oh yeah in your own words "would love to change banks but i have direct debits so it might be a hassle".

Its only a hassle if you make it so, simply open another bank account, and call all the people you have direct debits with and change the details with them, give your employer or if you get benefits to the benefits agency and everything usually works out ok.

Many on these forums have done this myself included and its worked out fine.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
