High rate care is only paid if someone needs substantial care both day and night. Middle rate care is paid if someone has substantial care needs day or night. For needs to be classed as substantial, it has to be most days/nights. The amount of time someone needs to care for you is also takien into account.0

They cut mine from high and middle, so i managed to get a job.
:eek::eek::eek:
So whilst you were suckling at the trough of the taxpayer on the higher rates you couldn't be bothered to work but then when they took some money off you you suddenly found the ability to do a job?
Disgusting.0 -
One word "Conservatives" the amount of people I have heard having there dole stopped its a joke!! how do they expect real people to live when there is no jobs out there, people will end up resorting to theiving sonn the country will go mad in a decade or two mark my words!!!!
1) There are jobs.
2) According to you, when people don't have a job they turn into criminals!
3) There will be a small minority of people who have been claiming high benefits for far too long (with no reason to) that will be angry, so no, I won't be marking your words.Per Mare Per Terram0 -

It's amazing how people who suddenly get benefits cut, manage to find that job they have been looking years for!Per Mare Per Terram0 -
Honestly, from the sounds of it you wife doesn't need the care, especially not £360 a months worth!
I'd look at WTC, CTC, HB and so on to help with paying the regular things.Per Mare Per Terram0 -

It can be a huge problem when DLA has been simply added into the general income pot and not used for it's specific purpose if it is taken away. However it does lead me to wonder whether, for some claimants, DLA is simply an income boost and there are no extra expenses incurred as a result of the 'disability'.0 -

Well, I don't want to be offensive to the OP, but was exactly has this £4,320 a year been used on?
I know he said that he had to go from working a night job, to a day job to help care for his wife, but this seems to have coincided with the start of DLA payments, how did she cope for the previous 7 years?Per Mare Per Terram0 -

Ok what is the specific use of DLA? you get high rate care, yet you can get an extra allowance for a carer so thats not the purpose of it, (to employ a carer) say an outside carer looks after you 36 hours a week, what about the other hours, what about during the evening and night? If you need 24 hour care and have a partner he/she is going to have to give up work to look after you, or at the very least go part time, therefore the household income will go down, so DLA would of course be useful there.
The mobility part, you could use it for a wheelchair, but now you can get a free one from social services, so you could use it for a car, but what if you cant drive, a mobility scooter perhaps but that would not take up all of your mobility money so you would have spare, what are you supposed to do with that? give it back or maybe use it to buy extra food and heat in the winter when you cant get out.0 -
No, in actual fact I am in agony with arthiritis. As soon as i get home I go to sleep. I'm now on antibiotics as my foot has swelled up and my knees giving me jip. The only job i could find was a a cleaner. So I shall battle on, till my body gives in completely.
That's what will happen now. People who are made to go out to work, will end up costing the gov more.0 -
hammyman, DLA isnt an out of work benefit, it is awarded because of care/mobility needs. many people on DLA can and do work.0
