  • Thanks Gingham - As a reasonably new comer, I just wanted to see what were the best aspirations of my companions. Many of us are idealists, i guess. This is a place where we can be equal. Getting information sometimes and sometimes being fortunate enough to have the pleasure of giving it too.
Sometimes, in socoiety, information seems to be in the hands of a few and I like the idea of it being accesible and available to everyone who needs it. It feels like we are slipping past the 'gatekeepers' of specialisms.
  • No offence but I didn't read all the questions. A combination of a short attention span and 2 brain cells. ;)

    But to answer the question in the thread title;

MSE is for me the difference between now being in only £22,000 of debt as opposed to probably being in over £40,000 of debt. :)
  • I did some work in a prison a few years ago. The residents were ideal consumers. They were a great success for all the marketing campaigns - being convinced that all that expensive stuff out there was TOTALLY essential. At the time I was doing something with a a car manufacturer. Mostly big companies like to do something that offsets the negative perceptions of their industry - you know: tobacco companies would like to sponsor sporting events (cause sports are healthy), car makers often sponsor environmental stuff and arms manufacturers sometimes go for the arts [- you get the picture. Anyway, I got close to persuading the car company to work with young car thieves(TDA kids) - coz - corporate social responsibility - they had taken on all the ad campaigns much more thoroughly than I have. I'll only buy a second hand diesel. I like the idea of climbing out of the pigeon hole.

Brilliant Southern - what a great achievement!
  • Here's the other questions:

    1. What first brought you to MSE?
    2. What has happened for you since the beginning of your involvement? How do you feel about this?
    3. What have you achieved as a result of your involvement?
    4. What is the relationship between how things are now and how they were for you before this involvement?
    5. What is different about your situation now? To what extent do you think this is because of your involvement with MSE?
    6. What is most positive for you now? What do you expect will be difficult for you?
    7. Where could you get help to improve things for yourself? Where else?
    8. What could you do differently from now on? What else?
    9. What could stop or limit your plans? What do you want instead?
    10. What might be the cost to you of doing things differently?
    11. In your life, what is the most radical and helpful thing you could do now?
    12. In your life, what is the simplest and helpful thing you could do now?
    13. What does your response to other posters tell you about yourself?
    14. What does your response to these questions tell you about yourself?
    15. What have you learned – or reinforced - about yourself – that you are most proud of?
    16. How can you play more to your strengths from now on?

I have to say that MSE has saved me £500+ per year, I get a constant stream of good ideas in Old Style and Green boards, good discussions in DT, amusing banter in the arms, AND I have met some truly wonderful peeps whom I now count among my dearest friends.

I used to scorn internet friendships, now I believe that a friend is a friend, whether cyber or flesh. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

No I'm just interested - how did people arrive here and why do they stay? What has it brought to their quality of life?
