Ex Motability Car

  • A few years ago a relative died and I was executor. He had just taken delivery of a motability car as he had just been awarded HRM. There was only about 150 miles on the clock and I was offered it at an absoloute snip and I now regret not buying it when it was offered. No one I knew wanted it at the time. Such a shame. I think they wanted about half of what it was worth. They just seemed like they wanted rid as it was more trouble collecting it.
So there are bargains out there if you are able to find them. No idea however how you would go about hunting for them. This one found me.

Just to check she is aware that it would not be all of her DLA that is used for the car on Motability but only the mobility component?

Motability do also have a hire purchase scheme which would mean she would own the car not just be leasing it but it is certainly not great value over all compared to the leasing option considering the swift depreciation of car values too.

The hire purchase has stopped, there was some talk of it earlier in the year on this site.

If she isn't going to drive it, why are the adaptations needed?

Also, why would she assume that the adaptations made for someone else would cover her own needs? Many Motability cars don't have any adaptations anyway as it is frequently not the claimant who drives them

Also not everyone who IS the dla recipient needs an adapted car. My ex Mil has MS and sometimes needs a stick to walk but she can drive without adaptations. I was going to say she drives just fine, but she can be a bit :eek: to drive with. That's not because she's disabled, it's because she's a bad driver :rotfl:

Oh on their website it still says it is available, how odd.

Oldernotwiser - because its only now and because of the medication she is on that she cant drive, she has driven before and hopefully it wont be long before she can again.
Also because i think , its only a push and pull that she would need.
Im sorry but i know nothing about these cars and if you can easily fit the adaptions to a car yourself.

Jettawales - Ill ask if she is aware of what you said. All she said to me is that she couldnt afford to have a motability car. Maybe she is unaware of the options available.

AlisonHarrison - That would probably the sort of thing she would be looking for.

Ill speak to her again and let her know what you have all said, i have shown her your responses before and told her you all know what you are talking about ;)
