Ok..so can you buy an ex motability car but have the payments taken from your Dla money?

By the sounds of things your friend would be better leasing a new car via the motability scheme and then she can paid for it with her DLA.*SIGH*0 -
Thanks DX2
I've asked and it seems she can't afford to get one with her outgoings at the minute.0 -

But why ex Motability?0 -
An Ex Motabiliy car is just a used secondhand car the same as any other secondhand car, there are good ones and bad ones; but she'll have to buy/finance it just like anyone else buying a secondhand car.
Plus she'll need to service, insure and maintain it like everyone else.
She really needs to look again at Motability, she can get a new car (some with nil deposit) and have all service, insurance costs covered.0 -
Thanks both
oldernotwiser, I think because it will already have the adaptions needed if she is able to drive herself again.
Chorlie, i understand what you are saying but heres the catch..she cant drive at the minute because of health problems so she will be getting a car and someone else will be driving it for her benefit.
She doesnt leave the house a lot but once a fortnight needs to go somewhere that is too far to go on the bus and too expensive in a taxi.
Basically the car will be sat on the drive more than being driven so this is also the reason she doesnt want to use most/all of her dla for a motability car.
What she should have just asked me to ask in the first place is if you could buy a second hand motability car and pay for it with her dla.
Its been answered now anyway so i will tell her..
Many thanks for all your replies0 -
Ex Motabiliy Cars will of had all there adaptions removed before they are put up for sale, that's why I said that an Ex Motability Car is just a secondhand car.
Her only way around it would be to search the net for secondhand adapted vans (there are several sites) see the prices and look into getting a personal loan / car loan and use her DLA to repay the loan0 -
Ohh i see, well she didnt know that!!
Thanks Chorlie, i think your'e right to be honest and i actually think an adapted van is a good idea0 -

If she isn't going to drive it, why are the adaptations needed?
Also, why would she assume that the adaptations made for someone else would cover her own needs? Many Motability cars don't have any adaptations anyway as it is frequently not the claimant who drives them0 -
Just to check she is aware that it would not be all of her DLA that is used for the car on Motability but only the mobility component?
Motability do also have a hire purchase scheme which would mean she would own the car not just be leasing it but it is certainly not great value over all compared to the leasing option considering the swift depreciation of car values too."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
