It shows because of the proximity of the payment to the billing period (27/4) - at this point EDF would have already started requesting the payment for that direct debit from the bank hence why it shows on that particular bill.Let us create a better world for the next generation.

As to £9.50 per month electricity - well, it is a little disingenous to concentrate on electricity as no-one is arguing that this is less of an issue for electricty. Yes, most lowest consumption consumers will still use 80 to 110% tier 1 units and the issue is less important here. But a great number of households will certainly use less than 670 kWh of gas over one or two quarters (and many of them will use a great deal less).

I concentrate on electricity because that is all I have. I have no idea about gas - I now think I should have made that clear in retrospect, but I didn't even think of the gas situation at all until i just read your post. Afterall, the op asked what we would like to see on our bills - and my bills are only concerned with electricity (admittedly, you would have to be a mind reader to realise that!).
So I hope my posts make more sense in retrospect knowing i am only commenting on the electricity situation, which is my situation.

Gas meter readings would have a conversion formula which is easier to calculate/understand.
Customers with old gas meters which calculate in cu.ft (we have this) would automatically be issued with new type meters. This would result in just one conversion formula to kwh.
A single-tier system for all useage (definitely not so many kwh at one price, another price for remainder). Dislike intensely.
All prices would include VAT. We have to pay the VAT, INCLUDE IT IN PRICES, AND NOT AT END OF INVOICE. It would make it much easier to immediately know the exact unit price.
Fast payment discounts should be factored into prices. If customer late paying, charge extra.0 -
Most of the bills themselves are fine to understand. I've had Eon,BG & EDF in the past few years and they're all ok. I agree that having a summary of previous usage would be useful but the actual billing part is easily followed.
The tariffs are also ok to understand once you realise that you need to concentrate!!! It's a contract so it needs careful reading, especially with the amounts involved these days.
The suppliers need to have different pricing structures to satisy different wants and needs.. as can be seen above, some want standing charges, some don't; some want fixed, some variable etc etc.. We can't moan that tariffs are too complicated when the alternative would be no choice??0 -
EDF paper bills are very misleading, title page would say "Your Gas Bill £-75.00." Which in fact means the balance of your payment plan is £75 in credit. Ideal bill would not be from edf design.
Ideal bill. Quartely bill/statement, first page shows clearly quartly cost, fully inclusive.
Underneath, if on monthly/regular payments,shows payment due and made. Underneath this show balance of payment plan, then a forecast of cost and expected usage to make customers aware of under or overpayment.
Underneath shows details and end date of any locked into contract.
Next page shows Unit cost, kwh info, standing charge and any info needed to check facts.
After the first year every subsequent bill should show annual forecast in both units and cost with an explanation of its purpose.

The online graphs from E.On is the most useless non-info I have ever had. Unless you have religiously entered readings every month for two years, the irregular durations and estimated readings make the comparison a joke.
Well, perhaps the worst non-info was the Broadband usage statistics from Tiscali. They simply stopped collecting it! So I have no idea if I was overstepping their fair usage policy. The plus side is, they probably didn't know either.0 -

Really? Fact?
So if the bill date was 28/4 its included?
I think, (and EDF didn't know) , it was due to the bill date of 16/5 covering a payment on the 1/5.
Of course,that introduces a payment made after the period of consumption billed. I asked why? Why not match payments during the same period?
No one could answer. Even when I asked for it be referred upwards, I had to make it a formal complaint. Oh no,not him again :eek:
It's not a complaint, its a question, relating to the simplest way to present a bill.
P.S. What's a VAT refund on a bill. No one could answer that either. How does that happen ,Ted0 -

Couples with the operational chaos they then employ -I opted out both online and by phone with scottish power, switched and still got charged and it was only because the guy I spoke to to opt out by phone put clear notes on my account that I'd opted out that I was able to get my cancellation charges reversed.
why can't Ofgem take the harf line other industry regulators are taking (Ofcom etc) against such sharp practice?0
