Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Its incredibly fast, faster than most broadbands which are available.

The cost may also include the necessary cards and the like to do it.

yes but pretty much everything 'non academic', even though smoe of it can be used for academic puposes.

So I'd say this outweighs the benefits of a speedy connection greatly. give me 512k broadband with openports over a speedy connection anyday.

People at Southampton university have to pay over £150 a year. So count yourself lucky.
failing that, in our rooms in halls, we have a dial up service provided by ntl where connection costs 3p, and surfing costs 1p per minute there after...mine refuses to work, but thats another story!

NTL are complete !!!!!! in this regard, they wouldn't let the university enable the wireless lan in halls for four years just so they could protect their profits. The university took legal action against them.

at wilmslow park (private halls in manchester) we're forced to pay out £100, but that is from ja.net and it's for the whole year (including summer if you stay over).... only downside is that you've got ports blocked so downloading stuff is a mission... i think i paid £70 for the year beforehand so a £30 top up is extortionate....

Free at Keele, you pay for the CD with software (less than £5) and the ethernet lead if you havn't got one. That's it. :)
£140 seems a lot, but spread over the year not too bad - depends how much you'll use it. I found it a godsend in halls cos computer room / library can get quite busy (and im lazy!)
£20 a month is more than we're paying for 3MB broadband living in a house this year!
Edited to add, the connection in halls was stupidly fast - made broadband seem like dial-up! There was a data limit, but you'd have to be downloading 100% of the time to get in trouble (and even then they just told you off!)

how's it going fellow manchester mse-er. our internet in halls is £95 a year i think. am moving into a flat next year, where the landlord has a wifi connection to JAnet. which was £70 i think.
